Nuevo Portil is a small coastal town that belongs to the municipality of Cartaya in Huelva province. There are approximately 1,214 inhabitants in the town. The home is only a 7-minute walk from the 4-kilometer beach Playa El Portil. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag label and is known for its calm waters. To the east, Playa El Portil borders the 3.8 km long Playa de La Bota. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the Laguna de El Portil reserve with endless hiking trails in beautiful coniferous forest. The area is ideal for walks, running and mountain biking. Municipal sports hall with football pitch, tennis court and gym within 10 minutes' walking distance. There are several golf courses in the area, the Nuevo Portil golf course is 1.5 km away and is open all year round. Two larger grocery stores are 500 meters and 1 km away. The town has Moorish architecture and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The old town has narrow, crooked streets and nice squares, surrounded by white houses with balconies and patios. The Alcázar from the 12th century is one of Spain's most beautiful Moorish castles, surrounded by lush gardens. Close by is the famous cathedral, built in late Gothic style on the foundations of a mosque. Doñana National Park is 1.5 hours' drive away. The landscape in the national park is made up of various lagoons, wider sandy beaches by the sea, scrub forests, swamps and wandering sand dunes. The park has a wealth of species that is unique in Europe. It has a variety of ecosystems and is home to a rich wildlife, including thousands of European and African migratory birds, fallow deer, Spanish red deer, wild boar, European badger, Egyptian mongoose. The park is also home to several endangered species, including the rare Iberian lynx and the Spanish imperial eagle. Of the imperial eagles, there are only around a hundred left today and a quarter of these live in the national park.
