Description

Centrally located to enjoy all of Southern Vermont: close to Mt Stratton, Mt. Snow, Mt. Bromley, 2 state parks, fall foliage & more. Get away from it all in this mid-century cottage. 14 secluded acres on a town-maintained gravel road only about 1/4 mile from pavement. Bring family or friends to enjoy our 4 BR/7 beds, 2 bath, LR, DR, sun porch, deck, gazebo, expansive lawns, creek, & private trail leading to endless back roads. Well-behaved dogs welcome. Deep discounts for weekly & monthly stays. The space The House This cottage-style house features an open living room, dining room area with seating for 8, a game table, Starlink high-speed internet, a fireplace (byo wood) and a 60" smart TV that you can use to sign in to your own streaming services, or just gaze out the huge picture windows at the 14 acres of private lawn and woods. We call this Vermont TV, and it is incredibly relaxing. The first floor also has a sun porch/mudroom entry off the deck, with space to store coats, outside shoes & gear, and dog towels. There is a comfy couch and chair and a propane fireplace. This is a lovely, secondary hang out space. There is small but well equipped galley-style kitchen. Plenty of pots, pans, dishes, glassware, spices, and oil for easy cooking. There is a stocked coffee and tea station with shelf-stable cream, non-diary creamer, sugar & stevia. There is a full-sized oven and stove, a microwave, blender, and cooking utensils. There are plastic dishes and cups for outside dining. Finally on the first floor there is a hallway leading to three bedrooms, each with a queen bed, lamps, tables, closets, and storage, plus a full bathroom with shower. The second floor is a large open room with eaves and another picture window overlooking the mountains. This space can be used as a master suite or a kids room. It has one double bed, two single beds, and a queen sized futon that can be used as a bed or another hang out area, in front of a 40" smart TV that you can use to log in to your streaming services. There is also a "retro" TV and kids' DVDs. (We make no guarantees about this one - it lasts as long as it lasts.) There is plenty of storage on this level as well, dressers, wall drawers, night tables, and a walk in cedar closet. There is also a full bathroom on the second level with a shower. The basement is available to guests only for doing laundry. Please do not use anything else down there. Heating & Cooling: There is a heat pump with mini split units in all of the rooms that provides heating in winter and cooling in summer. There is a wood burning stove in the living room (byo wood) and a propane stove in the sunroom. There is an oil furnace for back up heat in case of an extended power outage. We also have light blocking shades and curtains on the south-facing side of the house. IMPORTANT: This is a dog-friendly house. Although we hire professional cleaners who make every effort to ensure that the house is sparkling clean, as anyone with dogs knows, stray hairs can appear. The tufted wool rugs on the main level are also new and still shedding, which means as people walk on them between cleanings you will start to see what looks like lint or hair, but is in fact wool fibers. Please check your group and make anyone with allergies aware. The Grounds There is a fenced yard for kids and/or dogs in the front. The fence is 5 ft. tall but please note that the temporary gate is only 3 ft. tall. Please supervise your kids and/or dogs if you think they may escape. In the back is a deck and gazebo overlooking the expansive lawns. A great hangout space. There is a kids zip-line in the trees to the left as you face the lawn. It is about 8 ft. high, 100 lbs. max. weight. Use at your own risk, and supervise your kids! There are also two frisbee golf baskets in the yard if you want to practice your skills or invent your own game. Bring your own frisbees! If you walk straight out the back and up the hill you will find a trail that goes along a creek until it reaches Craven Road, which is the edge of our property. From here you can walk or bike the back roads for miles. Guest access You will have access to the whole house and outside property with the following exceptions: garage is locked and off limits; basement is only for doing laundry; there is a locked shed on the property. Other things to note Jamaica is in a remote part of Vermont. There may be snow storms that knock out the power and internet and prevent anyone from arriving or leaving during the storm. If you are visiting in winter, please be prepared for this possibility. IE, bring enough food and warm clothes and sit tight until the storm is over. Our house is at the end of a town maintained road, so the plows will come. We also contract with someone to plow our driveway and shovel the path to the back door, so you should not be stuck for too long. There will be snow shovels in the gazebo in the winter in case you want to do any shoveling of your own. We also have a local property manager who will come and check on you as soon as it is safe to do so. It's all part of the adventure!
