Not yet wheel-chair accessible. Other things to note Countless other villages and small towns between 5min and 30min away - each with its own selection of squares, restaurants, markets, wineries, events etc. Var-Matin daily newspaper (from the bakery or bar) is a great source of “what’s on where”. Trans-en-Provence is very close and has some cool events in summer together with a nice restaurant on the square, a great view of the little gorge behind the square and a restaurant in a cave (La Grotte). Le Muy (10 min drive) has a great Sunday market and the supermarket Casino on the RN7 has the best balance of proximity and price (also has petrol). There’s a great bakery called Emile Bec (under renovation April/May) on the way to Casino and a very simple/affordable restaurant (Les Jonquieres) opposite. Also lots of outdoor events in summer. The old town on the top of the hill in Les Arcs (15 min) is small but very attractive and there’s a really great restaurant with wonderful views at/from Hotel Chateau des Argens. There are 2 interesting wineries (Sainte Roseline and Font du Broc) on the way to Les Arcs on Route des Valises, as is another high-end restaurant, Le Relais Des Moines. There is a huge hypermarket (HyperU) just outside Les Arcs - ideal for the big stock-up shop. The station at Les Arcs is great for traveling to Monaco, Nice, Cannes and Marseilles where parking is difficult. Lorgues is about 10-15 mins beyond Les Arcs and has a huge street market (twice per week). Draguignan (15-20min) is the regional centre with good shops (including Carrefour Hypermarket) and interesting back streets. Roquebrune is 15 mins away on the way to/from the coast and the central square (on the very top of the hill) is well worth the walk with a very good cous-cous restaurant and an art gallery (amongst other places). Park at car park 5 and walk up the narrow street, Grande Rue André Cabasse. There is a lake with water sports, water slides, cafes etc just outside Roquebrune on the main road and you can walk on the rock (hillside) itself - which you can see so clearly from our terrace. Heading inland, Bargemon and Fayence are cool villages (20-30 min away), both with lively cafes in the centre and with interesting back streets. One of my guests found a village called Gourdon with amazing cliffs. And Grasse is bigger and is the historical centre of the global perfume industry as well as having a very attractive centre with narrow streets. Aups is about an hour away (to the North West) but has quite different and interesting cuisine - it’s a great day out if you start by driving North start to the famous Gorges de Verdon (water sports there too) and past the lavender fields. It’s much easier to drive along the gorge from East to West . There is a fantastic coast line from Monaco all the way to Hyeres with water sports at many of the beaches (public and private/paying) and in the lake and in some of the rivers. There’s a perfect mix of rocky coves and sandy beaches along the coastline. My favourite stretch is from Ste Maxime to St Aygulf with Les Issambres in between. Water parks at Ste Maxime and Frejus (next to an amusement park and a go-cart circuit). There’s also an adventure park (zip wires etc) on the edge of Frejus). Fréjus also has a marina (Port Fréjus) with loads of restaurants, an evening market in peak season and a Roman amphitheater. Antibes (50 mins) also has a huge water park with killer whale shows, acquarium etc (not everyone’s taste of course) and a very interesting glass factory at Biot nearby. St Tropez is worth a visit for the Saturday market, the marina and the narrow streets. Either combine it into a full day trip by visiting Port Grimaud (the Venice of Provence) and the old town of Grimaud on the hill … but start in St Tropez to avoid the traffic. Otherwise, take a boat to St Tropez from Ste Maxime Marina (with a car park) but you miss the Grimauds.
