The Hideaway is a peaceful forest vacation destination. This beautifully converted farm building is a hidden gem located in our Golden Cup Wilderness Village. This 160 acres of private forest property is nestled in the heart of Mendocino County, in the midst of Redwoods, madrones, old growth oaks and manzanita. It's secluded backyard forest and special attractions will put you at ease with the sounds of wildlife, rustling trees, and it's seasonal creek. It's truly a memorable glamping location. Staying on this property is deeply restorative. No password needed). Also, we recently installed WiFi that reaches your unit, so you can stay connected without needing a password. ☆★☆★☆ PARKING DETAILS ☆★☆★☆ IMPORTANT: The Hideaway has a convenient free designated parking space reserved at the CrossRoads. This is also where you will have access to free WIFI. (The Hideaway does NOT have WIFI at the unit). From the parking area you will need to be prepared for a somewhat steep 5 minute hike down to the Forest Village. The Hideaway is located in the Village area of our beautiful forest. As you hike down, follow the yellow arrow pointing left to the Village. The Hideaway is one section of a converted farm barn, a long building divided into two cabins. (The other half being the Cabana). The Hideaway is the second cabin to the left once you cross the bridge. Walk past the “Cabaña” to the backside of the cabin. Although you are private, please be mindful of your neighbors. We advise packing lightly so you don’t need to carry heavy things back up the incline. We also suggest wearing good hiking shoes. ☆★☆★☆ BATH & TOILET ☆★☆★☆ ★☆Outdoor self-composting toilet located a few feet past the Big Yurt ★☆Simple camping bucket toilet to use at your discretion at your unit ★☆Outdoor sink and hot shower under a mighty Golden Cup Oak just past the Big Yurt ★☆Naturally clean water from our wells and artesian spring IMPORTANT: The hot shower located at the Big Yurt, the sink located at the Big Yurt, washer and dryer found under the Big Yurt, and self-composting toilet beyond the Big Yurt, are all SHARED OUTDOOR SPACES for guests staying in units located in the Village. ☆★☆★☆ STAYING AT THE VILLAGE ☆★☆★☆ In addition to the Hideaway, the Village consists of the Cabana, the Sister's Earthen Yurt and the Big Yurt and each may be rented independently for additional guests or special occasions. The Village affords maximum flexibility, options for group events, and outdoorsy families. Spending time in Golden Cup Wilderness is the ultimate forest bathing! The Village is the place in our forest where you could find people if you prefer to know you have access to people during your retreat. It is very private, so you can choose to have a quiet, alone retreat, but you know that there are others -should you choose to find them. The property offers a perfect rustic retreat in a remote private forest, in the striking landscape of Mendocino County. It is a rare treat to enjoy 160 acres of great hikes and walks in raw nature and an organic permaculture farm. This is a privileged, extremely protected area by the surrounding mountains and the abundant vegetation and blanket of oaks, madrones, manzanitas, redwoods, and firs. You will enjoy artesian spring water, fresh mountain air, and a pure environment without the background city noise and pollutants. There is no light pollution in our mountains and you can gaze at the fascinating starry night sky. Besides being a natural jewel in landscape and farm, Golden Cup Wilderness is a natural building museum: there are beautiful natural buildings to visit designed and built by SunRay Kelley- an internationally renowned builder. Please visit the cob sauna, the stunning redwood-grove treehouse, and the beautiful meditation gazebo- they are all open for guests to enjoy and retreat. We run the sauna seasonally during Spring and Fall on Saturdays upon request for guests who wish to book it, but you are welcome to explore the sauna area and the outside of the building regardless, as it is a piece of art. Kindly be mindful of the guests enjoying their sauna inside. We promote sustainable living in a pure, native environment without any kind of pollution. All our ecological forest homes are one with the environment, they are architecturally designed using patterns found in nature, natural buildings, and no pollutants. We are surrounded by rare and beautiful organic vegetation and natural wildlife. Our property is child-friendly, but no pets. Kindly do not enter closed gates or any units that you did not rent. Otherwise, explore!! Explore our magnificent property. Walk and hike all our 6 miles of dirt roads and trails; visit the Redwood grove; rest in the Magical Treehouse hammock; admire or sponsor use of the Natural Earth-made Sauna; and freely utilize the Meditation Gazebo. These are museum-quality natural buildings designed by renowned natural builder and sculptor SunRay Kelley, and they are common areas open for all guests to enjoy. We ask all guests to exercise discretion, as many people come to Golden Cup Wilderness for a silent, solitude retreat. Other guests come for group training and concentrate on their studies. Yet other guests will be ever so excited to find you in the forest and will love to chat with you. And so, all of us converge in this magical place working on self-improvement and life improvement. ☆★ The Farm side ☆★ We are a registered organic farm, based on permaculture and biodynamic principles with over 100 different varieties of fruits, nuts, tropicals, medicinal plants, berries, and whatever organic vegetables we are growing. We keep the farm side separate, but if you are interested, we can look up when we have workshops or farm tours directly on our website. No harvesting of any kind, except when you come to a harvest retreat or experience. ☆★☆★☆TREAT YOURSELF ☆★☆★☆ Wood-fired sauna If you would like to treat yourself while you are on your retreat with us, you can book our earthen, wood-fired sauna (Saturday/seasonal only). The sauna was built about 14 years ago by SunRay Kelly and was renovated in May of 2022. Some of our guests helped us rebuild it and it was some of the most enjoyable times for all at Golden Cup. You can sponsor the sauna for an additional $50 by booking directly at goldencuphomestead (dot) org. Once sponsored, the sauna is open for all guests to enjoy. It is a swimsuit required area, so please don't forget to bring your own. Kindly request the sauna in advance, as we start firing the wood-burning stove for you 3 hours prior and need to plan ahead for its operation. Mendocino County has a strong fire ban during the months when our wilderness is at risk of wildfires. We run the sauna seasonally respecting our regulations. Additionally, some weeks it is not possible for us to run the sauna. Other things to note - No Pets allowed - Golden Cup Wilderness is remote enough to be outside of cell reception. If you would like to be able to make calls during your stay, you can activate wifi calls with your carrier while still in a cell service area. - Golden Cup Wilderness is a family-friendly wellness center, and as such we have a no-alcohol, drugs, or smoking policy.
