This home is not US standard. It is a typical Panama style home, with no serious frills except the King size bed and hot water. This is a budget (very simple) accommodation. There are plenty of luxurious places in town, but very few budget oriented places. Ideal for a couple (or two!) that wants a little more space and more natural surroundings than a hotel room can provide, or who would like more privacy than a hostel can provide. This is not suited to families with children under age 12. This building has a metal roof, in the typical Panamanian style. Sorry, no pets allowed. A King sized bed and equipped kitchen is in your one bedroom home on our secluded (yet central) property. Real hot water is available in the kitchen and shower. All outdoor areas and laundry facilities are shared spaces, and wi-fi is provided. There is a wilderness feel here on the property located only 550 meters from the main central Produce and Artisan Market (about 4-5 city blocks). We are a "no pet" property. Chickens and wildlife are the only animals we allow here. If you have a pet that is not a cat or dog, you can ask us about it - we may consider it as wildlife. Setup for one or two couples, but affordable enough for a solo traveler - we turned this home into what we were looking for ourselves as we explored Panama. There is Wifi available through most of the property (3/4 of an acre of land or 3000 square meters). There is a dedicated workspace in the bedroom (one person), but furniture could be easily reconfigured to allow all parties to work remotely (using the kitchen prep table), if needed. For sleeping, there is the King bed in the bedroom, and a Queen sized sleeper sofa in the living room. For 2 person reservations, we leave this as a couch. For 3 or 4 person reservations, we add an air mattress to the sleeper sofa and have it made up as a bed before you check in. There is a media projector with basic cable in the living room. You should be able to utilize your own media with USB or HDMI connections as well. It has a speaker attached for better sound quality. The kitchen is fairly well equipped, with a large prep table. Fridge, microwave, stove, oven, blender, toaster, toaster oven, coffee pot, mixing bowls, sheet pans, pots, pans, baking dish, wine opener, pizza cutter, etc. If there is something else you need that is not already there, just ask. We may be able to lend it to you from the main house. The hot water is in the kitchen and shower, and is a "tankless on demand" gas powered system. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. The bathroom is equipped with a hair dryer... but there is no electrical outlet in the bathroom. We have provided a mirror near an outlet in the bedroom for using it. For most of the year, the air temperature is a pleasant 18 C (65 F) for an overnight low, with high temps around 26-29 C (80-85 F). It cools off to around 21 C (70 F) around 6 pm every day. During rainy season (May through November) it will cool off whenever it rains (usually around 1 or 2 pm, just as it's actually getting hot). But sometimes, particularly between January and May, it can get a little hotter, because the rains are not here to provide their natural cooling. During that time of year, it can get very hot inside the house from about noon to 4 pm. We've provided multiple fans and as much natural ventilation as possible, but we stay outside ourselves during those times, and would advise you to plan to do the same. You should be in the hammock, or hiking somewhere at this time of day anyway! We have daily rates with weekly and monthly stay discounts. There are some cute but crazy chickens here! Sorry, no pets allowed. Welcome to The Magma Chamber! (What else would you call a place inside a collapsed volcano crater, that advertises very hot showers?) Basic accommodations, with a luxurious King sized bed and a dedicated workspace. Ideal for digital nomads, backpackers or budget travelers looking to explore El Valle. This unit could be utilized for a weekend exploration, or could be used for many weeks or months (we discount for longer stays, up to 40% off!). How long do you want to explore the town? The home and it's front and back attached patios (covered and furnished) are your private space to use. All other exterior areas (common patio, walkways, laundry, gardens, yard, etc.) are shared spaces where you may find the host, some chickens or other wildlife, or other guests. We spent 7 months as budget travelers, bouncing around Panama before settling in El Valle. We tried to provide everything we considered vital during our travels: Hot showers; A place to make coffee and store/prepare food; A place to wash clothes; Peaceful and nature abundant surroundings (and hammocks!); And a place to sleep. Honestly, we like the bed in this unit more than our own bed! I am available for any questions you may have. I will greet the guests on arrival and give them a short tour of the property. After that, I give them space, unless they wish to sit and chat. I'm more than willing to be amenable to the wishes of my guests, when possible. There are some guidebooks attached to this listing - and a printed copy is available in your rental. It will tell you some of our personal favorite things to do and places to eat in the area. If you need something during your stay and do not see us on the property, please send us a message through the Airbnb platform, and we will respond promptly. Central to downtown El Valle. 200 meters from the bank and a grocery store, 500 meters from the main vegetable market, and within 1 km of about a dozen restaurants. You can easily walk to the stores or restaurants from here, since we are only 200 meters from the main road. Cabs and busses can be waved down near Banco Nacional, if needed. Parking is usually parallel street side through most of town. Sounds you may hear: Usually, the property is fairly quiet, except for the sounds of birds (including the chickens), insects, and other wildlife. You may hear the occasional car, or other people (or their barking dogs), as you would expect to, being close to town. But some sounds, depend entirely on when you are planning to stay. December through May stays: This time of year is known locally as "Summer" or "Windy Season". There is little rainfall, but the winds can be heavy. As a result, you can expect to hear tree branches and other wind-blown debris banging across the roof when the winds are strong. There are approximately two national holidays each month during this time of year, and you could expect to hear holiday celebrations from the locals, especially on a weekend. Fireworks and music can be heard until the wee hours of the morning on a national holiday. This is common in any part of Panama (even more remote locations). April through August stays: This is Mango season! We have 4 very large and very productive mango trees on the property. Expect to hear small thuds regularly as they hit the ground - and an occasional loud bang when one hits a roof. The upside to this time of year is - free fresh fruit for people here AND the fallen mangos can attract wildlife. We've had some good days watching animals feasting during mango season. But we can't guarantee their presence. June through November stays: This time of year is "winter" or "rainy season". Most days start clear and beautiful, and it will rain in the afternoon or early evening. Sometimes it's only for a few hours and clears up before dinner time, and sometimes it lasts longer. Rain all day and night is rare, but it does happen. We get about 200 inches (508 cm) of rainfall per year during these months. The rain can be very loud at times, but when that does happen it's usually only deafening for 15 or 20 minutes at a time, before quieting back to a more normal level. November has more national holidays than any other month of the year, so hearing local celebrations that month is almost guaranteed. PLEASE BE ADVISED: Power failures are common in all of Panama. If you require a CPAP machine or other essential electrical powered device, please expect some disruption to utility services (which is completely out of our control). Please note, on Tuesdays we have lawn maintenance done (there may be some noise after 10 am from equipment), and on Tuesdays and Fridays, we have the common areas cleaned. These services are performed between 8 am and 3 pm. The home and it's front and back attached patios (covered and furnished) are your private space to use. All other exterior areas (common patio, walkways, laundry, gardens, yard, etc.) are shared spaces where you may find the host, some chickens or other wildlife, or other guests (we have two small private rooms we also rent here, but that's it!). If you have a vehicle, we can accommodate one average sized vehicle. If you have an oversized vehicle, or a trailer of any kind, we are unlikely to be able to accommodate your needs on this property. Sloths! Chickens! Agoutis! Golden Frogs! Iguanas! These creatures are all residents on the property. The chickens and agoutis are here every single day, and the others are occasionally spotted. You may also see a housecat or stray dog wandering the grounds from time to time. We have a fence, but they keep finding ways in and out. Sorry, but we do not allow pets on this property.
