The town is very close to the department's various infrastructures: 15 min from the airport, less than 10 minutes from the highway (Perpignan Nord – A9), 5 minutes from a large shopping area (cinema, restaurants, supermarkets, etc.) Geographically, Saint-Hippolyte is 10 minutes from the Mediterranean coast and its famous resorts (Le Barcarès, Canet-en-Roussillon, etc.). On the edge of the pond, the Hippolytan territory has benefited, over the centuries, from a rich land, as in all of Salanque. Over time, humans have mastered these marshy areas, which today contributes to the diversity of its fauna and flora. On the one hand, the typical history of this village undeniably linked to its situation, a land of passage, has forged its architecture, its layout. The medieval castle with its cellars that form the historic center of the village, have been well preserved. The cellar is this set dating from the Middle Ages, in one piece around the castle, made of barns and dwellings, which today is very rare in Roussillon, due to lack of conservation. Facing the castle, the church, also in very good condition, exhibits its ancient treasures in a side chapel. Roman remains bear witness to the ancient history of our town (milestone). This exceptional situation has been put in place over the successive evolutions of the village. On the other side of the village, towards the pond, extends a vast protected natural area. A program for the protection of European natural areas, Natura 2000, has been set up over a large area of the municipal territory. In addition, a canal dug in the 17th century by Paul Riquet, connects the village and the pond. Come and discover the fishermen's huts at the Font del Port (at the end of the canal). Here you'll also see Catalan boats. This space, where endangered species and floral diversity coexist, is an important transit point for migratory birds.
