Just a short walk to the gorgeous local swimming beach and iconic Somers General Store. The perfect base to explore the delights of the Mornington Peninsula. Perched in a native and indigenous landscaped garden, you'll be wrapped in nature. There's so much to do here, or nothing at all. . The space The Scout's House is located on a very quiet and peaceful street. The yard is fully fenced. A gravel drive reaches up to a carport for a small/ medium car. The entrance is fully protected from the elements so you can come and go with ease. The house was built by a family in the mid 1970's. It's an iconic design and layout. The house is set to maximise light with big windows that set the scene to enjoy the ocean views through the treetops. The Entrance to The Scouts House is spacious with a wonderful terrazzo floor. Plenty of room for you to unload your luggage and to bring home the days shopping, local produce or boxes of wine. Living areas are upstairs- a huge open plan kitchen and lounge room. A large deck looks out over treetops to Phillip Island and Seal Rock. The lounge has a very impressively warm original brass fireplace. Ive kept the vibe classic. Not retro , but timeless and most importantly comfortable. The back deck is a huge entertaining terrace with a dining table that extends to 10 guests. Barbecue facilities and a wok burner for special occasions. I always wanted for this to be a place to be comfortable, to be lived in and enjoyed. There are so many interesting bits here that I have collected, I have had the opportunity to travel alot. There's a beautiful collection of art by artists like John Coburn, Lauren Bamford, Clifton Pugh and Sculptures by Miriam Porter. There are fantastic concrete planters by Willy Guhl and some very special Australian pieces too. Original lighting by Jielde, Louis Poulson, DCW Editions and paper Akari Lamps designed by Isamu Noguchi. Upstairs is completely white, it's light breezy and warm. Living, kitchen, Bathroom 1, Bedrooms 1 and 2 are all upstairs. White washed lining boards on the walls and ceiling and huge Oregon Beams set the coastal mood. Vintage furniture designed by Charles Eames, Grant Featherston and a Sofa by LA Based Modernica are effortlessly comfortable. `The galley kitchen has everything you need. The utilitarian stainless steel bench top is so easy to clean and practical. You can eat at the kitchen bench or take meals out to the large back deck which is north facing and has a barbecue with wok burner and large extension table for family gatherings. There is a huge colourful umbrella, French Deckchairs, a single mattress pad for sun baking on the deck. Plus extra stools and seating all over the house. In the lounge, the focus is not the television. There are hundreds of books in the Scouts House. Novels, picture books, art programs, biographies. A simple sound system connects to your phone. Apple TV is easy to use, and the television is modest for catching up with reality. A DVD player plays the entire collection of Woody Allen films and some Art House Classics. At night Roman blinds provide complete privacy, but during the day drawn to welcome the day ahead. There is always lots of firewood for the fire. A reverse cycle air conditioner also for getting the space the way you want it. We supply candles and room sprays by the world best - CIRE TRUDON for you to enjoy while you stay. The views from upstairs are spectacular and the sea views for you to enjoy from the living and kitchen window. The bathroom upstairs has a separate toilet. Towel storage. A wonderfully stocked first aid kit with all the important things. Plus a few luxury items from Santa Maria Novella in Florence for you to enjoy. The master bedroom upstairs has a beautiful full queen size cast iron bed that I made myself. Every possible comfort level of pillow. Electric blankets for those needing extra warmth. A huge landscape window looks out over the treetops. Lots of storage for your luggage. Bedroom two is next to bedroom 1. A set of single bunks and single trundle provide extra accomodation. the space is small but is airy light and bright.
