Description
My cosy countryside home is placed in the nicest part of Criț, near the fortified church, on ViaTransilvanica. Viscri is only 15 mins away. Please be so kind to rent it in April only if you like the idea of making a fire. You will have the entire house (2 rooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen) and a small yard to yourself; the place accommodates 4 people. If you have a thing for authentic accommodation and you are not seeking city-like perfection, you will love it here. Biker friendly. Breakfast available. The space The house The house has a small bedroom with 2 single beds connected to the recently renovated bathroom; the second, bigger room, serves as living room but it is also used as a bedroom, as this is the place where the double bed sits. Important: the 2 single beds are not standard dimensions (one is 185x90 cm, the other one is 180x90 cm), as they are either old or designed in the local traditional fashion and people back then were way shorter :). The kitchen is small, but well equipped. As the house has solid thick walls, the temperature during summer is really pleasant, no need for air conditioning. You will have a small and private yard and a shaddy place to eat and spend time outside. The wifi is good. If you are working remote, it is good to know that there are 2 tables (one inside and one outside) which are big enough and can also be turned into desks on the spot. The house was built around 150 years ago and it was preserved by a local heritage foundation (MET) in an authentic manner up to today. The floors, doors, windows, the finishing of the walls and many furnitures and objects in the house are old and original. If you are not ok with the smell of old wood in a house and prefer brand new interiors, there is a chance you might not like the place 😊. If you stay in the room with the bigger bed and there are other friends/members of the family staying in the smaller room with separate beds, please keep in mind that you need to go through their room to reach the bathroom. The food Eating out in the area is not so easy as one might think. Especially during high season it is not simple to secure a reservation with a good local place. If you are into self catering, it is best that you do some shopping in Rupea Penny supermarket before you arrive and you can then complete your menu with local eggs, milk, bread and honey. If you want to experience how the locals cook, please let me know and I will give you some reccommendations of the nearest places which serve tasty meals. A good idea is to experience an authentic homemade meal with a local lady; she is nice and cooks really well, but you still need to let her know one day before so she can start preparing. If this sounds good, let me know and I will put you in touch. To get you started, we can serve breakfast at the house, just let us know. The area This part of Transylvania is rich in fortified churches, hiking & cycling trails and a wide range of events, especially in high season. Please let me know what you are mostly interested in so I can think of the best things to recommend you to visit or experience while here. Welcome to our world :). Guest access You will find the keys at the property and will have the entire house to yourself. Other things to note Heating: during the cold months (October & April) the house is heated with terracota traditional stoves which function with chopped wood. Please be so kind to book the house during this time only if you fancy the idea of making a fire 😊. Many people love this about the house, but I can imagine it can be a nuisance if you are not acustomed with the smell and the work needed to start and maintain a fire. Drinking water: You will notive the water has a lot of calcar in it; despite my efforts you will see traces on the shower faucet and on the dish rack in the kitchen. So even if it is labeled as drinkable, I dont drink it and I and highly recommend that you dont drink it either: 3 village shops are very near, you can easily buy bottled water instead. Barbecue: As there is a lot of wood around and the buildings are very close to each other in the small yard, it is not safe to make a barbecue. Please be so kind to understand this. Coffee maker: we have a moka coffee maker to put on the stove (check it out in our photos), a coffee filter and a French press. Specialty coffee brought from all over the world and roasted in Romania is available June to September next door. Shower Tip: The shower can be used in three ways and because using all of them is not very intuitive 😊, it needs some explanation :). The rain shower with water coming from above is pretty easy to figure out, but to switch from the normal shower with a mobile head to the 3rd way (the old way, with water coming out of the thick pipe for the lower part of the body) you need to turn this last thick pipe sideways. Please ask me to show you if it is still unclear, it is not easy 😊. Induction stove: this model is more complicated to switch-on than usual, I would be happy to help if you dont succeed. If you are not into induction stoves, there is an electrical stove option, ask me and I will bring it.
