Description

Earth home, made of straw bales! Hand-built, surrounded by mountains and trees, and just three minutes from the entrance to spectacular Minnewaska State Park, known for its spring-fed "sky lakes" and many miles of trails for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. The space The Nest is a rustic post-and-beam structure with 15-inch-thick walls made of straw bales, plastered inside and out with layers of clay and lime. Rough, wavy look and texture. Earthy! Large windows throughout! Contemporary kitchen and baths, with quartz countertops and stainless appliances. Downstairs: -open living/dining room with tile floor and cathedral ceiling; -kitchen; -full bath with shower; -one bedroom. Plenty of Cuisinart cookware, glasses, dishes, accessories, a Breville, a Mr. Coffee, a French press, and a Keurig espresso maker, and more. Upstairs: -the larger bedroom; -a full bath with tub and shower; -an extra living room/den/work space with inviting sofa and TV and a seasonal view of the Minnewaska ridge. The den is a great spot to ponder creative work or just to relax and commune with sky and trees. Energy-efficient mini-split heat exchange units quietly heat in winter, air-condition and dehumidify the house in summer, along with 3 ceiling fans. Radiant heat in the floor keeps the whole house warm in winter. In case of a power outage, the quiet standby generator kicks in instantly. HEPA air purifiers (available on request) to remove any small particulate matter from the air. UV purification system ensures clean, safe water from our well, without chlorination. Mohonk Preserve and the Gunks are about 10 minutes away. High Falls, New Paltz and Gardiner are each about 20 minutes, and Woodstock (and so many other places to discover) is a little farther but still an easy drive. In addition to its natural beauty, the mid-Hudson Valley has some superb restaurants, an assortment of breweries, cideries, plus galleries, concerts, theaters and historic sites, if you are so inclined. RELIABLE WIFI No problem working from the house. The phone connection can be sketchy up here when relying on the cell towers, but free internet phone providers work fine. The sheets and towels are laundered with hypo-allergenic detergent, free of artificial dyes, fragrances, or brighteners. Please feel free to ask about dates that may be blocked on the calendar. Since we sometimes stay at the house ourselves, we may have flexibility. Finally, The Nest is not owned by a corporation! I and my family love this home we built and spend time here whenever possible. We hope you will enjoy our country getaway as much as we do. Guest access Driveway parking for up to three cars. Other things to note There is a board-and-batten outbuilding (shed) next to the driveway and another small shed in the backyard which are not accessible to guests. Stand-by generator will go on immediately in the case of a power outage. It can power the whole house for 2 - 3 days.
