Escape city life in our Arthurs Pass retreat, a haven for mountain enthusiasts/avid trampers. Nestled in the Southern Alps, our sanctuary offers tranquility, a large rock-faced fireplace, mountain views, and a sheltered deck. Ideal for those who appreciate rustic charm, our house is a unique base for trecking adventures, combining comfort with the distinctive nature of a mountain home. Immerse yourself in Arthurs Pass, where rainforest serenity, cozy ambiance, and snow-kissed peaks await The space Please note this home may NOT be for you. i.e. it's essential to highlight that, despite our commitment to cleanliness and comfort, our home doesn't conform to the ultra-modern standards that some guests may prefer. Instead, it offers a unique charm – a rustic and authentic atmosphere steeped in six decades of history. It is a wooden Chalet and, as such, will have imperfections. We have wooden beams and wooden ceilings in some rooms The wood inherently has different shades of colours from pale to warm, earthy tones to deeper hues. The region experiences frequent rainfall due to its location in the heart of the Southern Alps of New Zealand. During the winter months, snowfall is common, making it advisable to have access to a 4-wheel drive or snow chains). Visitors should be well-prepared with warmer clothing, raincoats, and sturdy tramping boots to navigate the diverse weather conditions. While the summer months can be beautifully hot, it's crucial to remain vigilant, as the weather can quickly change to cold and rainy. Situated in the midst of mountains and surrounded by rainforest, the area offers unpredictable yet stunning landscapes throughout the year. Arthurs Pass has one cafe and one restaurant (and a hotel 10 km's away the Bealey which sometimes has a live band). The main attraction is the amazing walks and tramps you can do from the area Base Camp has a large, sheltered wooden deck with stunning mountain views. It's a great spot for relaxing, reading, and enjoying the outdoors. On clear nights, far from any city lights and light pollution, you can see the brilliance of the stars illuminating the night sky. Our amenities include: Free high-speed Wifi A spacious living area with comfortable couches and a dining table 3 bedrooms (3 double beds, 1 single ) 2 bathrooms, accommodating up to 7 guests Kitchen equipped with an oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, and freezer A large Smart TV with access to Netflix (if you have your own account) and Sky TV and a Bluetooth speaker system so you can listen to your own music A large rock-face open fireplace, with wood provided Efficient heaters in all bedrooms A washing machine and a dryer Nespresso Coffee Machine with just a few capsules for your arrival. Portable crib available Baby bath You’ll be a short walk away from the Arthur’s Pass Village. The Mt. Bealey track, offering panoramic views of the entire Arthur's Pass valley, is less than 5 minutes walk from the front door as are many other captivating walking tracks in the area. Some of our favourite walks are: • The Devil's Punch Bowl where you can walk to the base of the very impressive 150m vertical waterfall. • Dobson Nature Walk and the upper Otira valley. • Arthur’s Pass Walking Track • Mt Avalanche For more information on these and many more tracks, please visit the DOC website. Lake Brunner is beautiful and its only about an hour drive away. Its worth it for the drive alone, it’s an incredible drive through the Otira Gorge over the Viaduct, then on to the spectacular West Coast with it’s native forests, winding roads, epic views, and raw, untouched nature. This is no ordinary road trip! There is a café just 10 minutes’ walk away The Bealey Hotel, which is about 5 kilometers away, offers good pub food and has longer opening hours. Relax, rejuvenate, and disconnect in this rustic mountain retreat, where you can listen to the soothing sounds of nature, read, nap, or embark on long walks.
