Laboe The idyllic Baltic resort of Laboe (about 5500 inhabitants) is picturesquely located at the exit of the Kiel Fjord on the eastern shore. The former fishing village has become a popular holiday and seaside resort. Laboe is an ancient place and was first mentioned in documents in 1240. The name Laboe is derived from the Slavic "Lubodne", which means "swan place". And even today, the swan is the heraldic animal Laboes. The long, fine sandy beach slopes very flat towards the fjord, so it is especially recommended for families with small children. With the Kiel Fjord, one of the most frequented waterways in the world, on your doorstep, the "beach life" offers a special attraction also for "sailors", who can observe the passing ships extensively. The panorama of Laboe is visibly surmounted by the world-famous 85 m high naval memorial. This memorial commemorates the fate of all the people who remained at sea and is intended as a reminder for a peaceful navigation on the open seas. From above, the visitor has a beautiful view over the fjord and the Baltic Sea in clear weather. At the foot of the monument is the submarine u 995 as a technical museum. The movie "The Boat" takes place on a submarine, which, like u 995, belongs to the famous class vii c. At the dining table, there is space for extended meals or a quick breakfast before heading out to the water. The two bedrooms are clearly and cozily furnished. In one, you sleep in a comfortable double bed, in the other in two single beds – so everyone has their own retreat. The bathroom offers both a shower and a bathtub, making it ideal for refreshing yourself after a day at the beach or simply diving in.
