The palace takes its name from the presence on the sides of the portal of two medieval high reliefs (13th century) in Istrian stone, perhaps from the ancient church of San Tomà, depicting two Romanesque lions, one of which , the one on the right, holds in its claws a kind of small eel-like dragon. At the base of the building, on the Grand Canal, there are gondolas: the Traghetto (ferry) to San Marco. The flat does not have views on the Canal but does have stunning ones on Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Friari.
