Stargazing Cabin with Sauna

Unique winter experience! Immerse yourself in nature in this breath-taking glass walled cabin. Enjoy the snow fall and forest while you relax in comfort and style. The space features floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides and an all glass ceiling for stargazing. There is also a traditional Norwegian Sauna and stream cold plunge for your relaxation and pleasure. **For winter bookings** This experience is not for everyone, you should be prepared for roughing it. please fully read the other notes The space The cabin is off-grid. But there is an outdoor hot water shower and sink (May-October). There are also battery powered lights, a a propane grill and fire pit for you to use. There is a composting toilet in an outhouse behind the cabin. Other things to note The water for the outdoor shower is off from November-May. So the only bathing option is the stream cold plunge and Sauna warm up. The cabin is heated by a propane heater, but you should still be prepared for winter weather, and the outhouse is unheated. You should bring what you think you will need for camping + winter comfort. The stars/moon/light from the propane heater may be bright for some people. You may want to bring an eye mask for sleeping if you are light-sensitive. Detailed Sauna Use Instructions: When you arrive on Friday, please sign up for only one of the available time slots at the signup sheet in the small shed near the sauna. the time slots are: Friday 3-6pm, 6pm-9pm Saturday 12-3pm, 3pm-6pm, 6pm-9pm. On Saturday morning you can sign up for a second slot if you would like. if you are not here on a weekend you will likely have the place to yourself so no sign up is necessary. If you check, and no one has signed up for the slot before yours, you can start early, get the sauna fired up, etc. Using the Sauna: It takes about an hour and a half for the sauna to heat up when temperatures are in the 30s, if they are warmer a little less, if they are colder a little longer. To open the door, push in slightly and slide the lever to the left. To light the fire: firewood, paper and cardboard will be provided. You will have to gather a few handfuls of your own kindling. look for dry dead branches that aren't touching the forest floor and break easily to size. make sure the damper slide at the bottom of the stove is open. ball up a few pieces of paper, top with a few strips of cardboard, add kindling on top and a few smaller splits of wood. light with the matches. close door, but keep it cracked slightly until fire is fully roaring. Then close door all the way. 5-10 minutes later, add a mix of smaller and larger firewood as much as will fit, in a criss-cross pattern to allow good air circulation. Once this is all burning nicely you can close the door and go away for about 45 minutes. come back and check on it, it may now be ready to use, or you may need to add more wood and wait a little longer. once the sauna is hot: pour plenty of water on the rocks, this will bring up the humidity. *Pour the water on the rocks, not on the stovepipe or stove itself. ** lie/sit on towels (provided). You can crack the door open if you would like more ventilation. feel free to light the candles (provided) but make sure to blow out when finished. use the cold plunge! When you are finished, lightly spray down the benches and wipe down with the rag and spray provided. give the floor a quick sweep. Enjoy!
