The beautiful Ahr valley is 25 minutes away by car. Here everyone finds something for themselves whether with the family hiking or cycling, but perhaps nice wine locally from their own region. Really very nice. Highly recommended. Wine, hiking and enjoyment – that's what the Ahr Valley stands for. Anyone visiting the picturesque region with its steep vineyard terraces, silent forests and rocky gorges should definitely lace up their hiking boots, because the smallest tributary of the Rhine is best explored on foot. In this post, I will introduce you to five varied hikes in the Ahr Valley, including refreshment tips, which are ideal as half-day or day trips. Where is the Ahr Valley? The Ahr valley is located between Cologne and Koblenz and was named after the Ahr, a tributary of the Rhine. The Ahr originates in Blankenheim in North Rhine-Westphalia and winds from there about 89 kilometers through a deeply incised valley framed by rugged rocks. Passing romantic winegrowing villages, it flows through the northeast of the Eifel in Rhineland-Palatinate until it finally flows into the Rhine at Sinzig. Who is hiking in the Ahr valley suitable for? In the Ahr Valley, it's all about enjoyment. From the source to the mouth, always close to the wine, numerous hiking routes with different degrees of difficulty lead along the Ahr. On the way, small winegrowers and restaurants with good cuisine invite you to stop. There are also interesting cultural monuments to discover – from the Roemervilla in Bad Neuenahr to the Calvarienberg Monastery and the former government bunker. Hiking in the Ahr valley is therefore suitable for nature lovers, wine lovers, gourmets and culture vultures of all ages. The hiking trails are extremely varied. Some lead through shady forests, directly along the banks of the Ahr, others run high up on the steep vineyards and give fantastic views over the Ahr Valley.
