Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway! Enjoy swimming off the back deck, the ambiance of sitting on the many decks enjoying the beauty of the lake or just relaxing to watch the sunset. If the weather is cooler you may want to enjoy sitting around the gas firepit on the deck or the wood burning fireplace in the Sunroom! The one bedroom has a queen size bed and in the den a pull out sofa bed for two. Less than 10 minutes to downtown for all you shopping and great restaurants too! The city of Jacksonville began in 1847 by Jackson Smith. Lake Jacksonville was built in 1956 to supply the city of Jacksonville with an ample supply of good drinking water that would last for many years to come. The lake was dedicated on August 6th 1957, and impounded in December 1st, 1957. Our Lake House was built in 1958 by the Don Dacus on approximately (1) acre and one of the first homes built on the lake. Don Dacus was also the founder of Galaxie Boats manufactured here in Jacksonville, and no, “Galaxie” is not misspelled. My wife Judy and I have owned the house since 2012. It required lots repairs, updates and improvements but it still has its original rustic charm that will surpass your expectations, the walls, ceilings and floors are still the original heart wood pine. In 1958 homes were built with much smaller bathrooms and closet than we are use to today but it is still very comfortable. If you have ever taken a cruise before, you are familiar with similarly small bathrooms and closets. We used this house as our weekend retreat, while still working for Schlumberger and living in Houston before retiring, and then built a new home in the middle of the lot. The exterior colors were found on the cover of one of the Southern Living Magazine’s, it was very welcoming beach house, we love the updated color.
