Beautifully modernized country farmhouse retreat from city life, perfectly situated less than a mile from SIU, yet nestled on six acres of woodland. Built in 1873, British owners have embellished the property's character with original structures and stylish additions. Spacious sleeping quarters overlook the garden, and the Chautauqua Bottoms tree-lined walking trails are a few feet away. Breakfast is served daily in the Tea Room. The Blue room is spacious, and with its whitewashed hardwood floors, elegant and cosy reading chairs by the cast iron fireplace, you'll enjoy some tranquility and calm. One Queen bed and one Twin trundle daybed with luscious linens, dresser, large closet, and a luxury tiled bathroom featuring its restored cast-iron enamel tub, overhead rain shower, and even underfloor heating. You'll have front porch access, with plenty of parking on the driveway, and two acres around the property including the back patio overlooking the woods, where you can unwind with some refreshments. The Tea Room, where breakfast is served, has a fridge for your personal snacks, a hot water urn, hand washing sink, Nespresso coffee, tea, and other refreshments. In the cooler months, you'll enjoy the warmth and aroma of the wood stove while it heats up home-made soup suppers. Your room and the property is spacious, and the large living room has comfortable couches and chairs alongside a working gas fire in the old brick fireplace; only the main kitchen and upstairs are off-limits. One of us is usually here to welcome you on arrival; if not, there is a lockbox with the keys for your stay. During your stay, please do call or text or stop us in the hallway for assistance, though please note that after 8PM, we generally don't answer until the next morning unless it's a true emergency. The B&B is situated off the main road going west 3/4 mile from the SIU campus. If you keep going, you'll drive along winding country roads through forests and national parks with mile-long views of lands left to nurture and grow. Local farmers and flower-growers gather for local markets; and you can join farm trails to visit in person. Carbondale town, 10 minutes by car, has the usual TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Walmart, Krogers, AMC movie theater, a well-run Barnes & Noble with a quiet Starbucks, and best of all a well-stocked friendly Neighborhood Co-op just a mile away. Uber drivers are usually available in Carbondale, as are rental cars. The area is easy to get around with wide roads in the town, and winding wooded country roads along the way; and traffic is never more than a handful of cars at a time. Electric scooters as well electric seated bikes are available all over and can be parked on the B&B property for free pick-up. While absolutely no animals are allowed, with no exceptions, guests should know that there is a friendly dog next door who also watches over our property. If anyone is afraid of dogs and prefers not to have him around, please let us know in advance, and his owner will keep him inside.
