The Green Cottage on Deer Lake
The Green Cottage on Deer Lake
Description
The cottage is located on a quiet lake in the Almaguin Highlands. This family cottage comes with everything you need to enjoy your stay. The living area is open concept with views of the lake & sunrise. Swim in the lake from the beach, or take out the canoe or kayaks and explore the lake! Wildlife is all around us, it's not uncommon to see a blue heron flying across the bay or hear a loon's call. Enjoy the stars on a clear night while sitting around the campfire. The space The Green is a cozy 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage that comes with everything you need; just bring your own drinks & food! Linens & towels are provided and the cottage is cleaned between guests. The master bedroom has a queen bed and dresser with a gorgeous view of the lake. The second bedroom has a bunk bed outfitted with luxury Beddy’s bedding (with the cozy minky) and a dresser. The living area & kitchen area is open concept. The kitchen area has a table with benches, fridge, stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, and coffee maker with filters. There is drinking water provided in a water cooler, the 'tap' water comes directly from the lake and is unfiltered. The living room has leather couches, a rocking chair, coffee table, a couple side tables, TV & DVD player. There is a small selection of books and DVDs for rainy days and evenings. WiFi & Internet access included. The cottage shares the property with a house that your hosts live in year round. We are family of four with two boys, aged 7yrs and 11yrs (in 2026). We have a dog that is leashed when outside and a flock of chickens including a rooster (so some crowing can be heard at times). The chickens are located back in the woods, on the other side of the laneway. We are conveniently next door if you ever need anything. We’ve included some pictures that show the how the buildings are situated. There is a shared dock and a small beach where the water gradually gets deeper. There are a few kayaks and a canoe you can use, as well as a fishing boat with a small electric motor (a boat license is required to use the fishing boat due to it having a motor). Deer Lake has great fishing where you’ll find Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, White Sucker and Yellow Perch. Guest access The entire cottage and deck are yours for your stay. The front and backyard areas, beach & dock are shared spaces with your host family. Other things to note Our max occupancy is 4 guests (infants not included). Bug season is a thing out here in the north. Some years are worse than others, but it is part of the price we pay being out in nature. There will always be some bugs, but in the spring is when bugs are the worst (generally from late May to the end of June). In the spring you have both mosquitos and black flies, and in wooded areas they can be quite bad. We highly recommend bug spray during this time of year and we provide 4 bug hats for use during your stay. The length of our spring bug season is very dependent on the each year's weather. If it gets hot early in the spring, then our bug season is much shorter but if it's a wet cooler spring than it can be a longer season. We've clear a few trees from the front of the cottage in the last year which helps cut down on the bugs. If you'd like to know how the bugs are here for this year, feel free to reach out and we'll give you a current report.
