Description

Birch Cottage is a charming 3-bedroom stone cottage with a secluded woodland sauna cabin and views across the Wye Valley countryside. It is located on Offas Dyke footpath on a very quiet road, so is great for anyone looking to explore the network of Wye Valley footpaths. Monmouth, Forest of Dean, Bristol, Bath and Cardiff are close enough for day visits. Whatever season you prefer, it's a wonderful place to recharge your batteries and connect with nature. The space Birch Cottage is a beautiful 200-year-old cottage that combines age-old craftsmanship with subtle modernisation to create a peaceful and secluded retreat. The cottage was restored using an ecological approach. The cob flooring provides a beautiful warm floor. The kitchen is made from locally sourced ash slabs and recycled pallet wood to balance rustic charm and modern conveniences. It has a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine. We aim to keep it equipped with the essentials like tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets and cleaning products and the local village shop and café are only a short walk or few minutes drive away. There are three double bedrooms. The dorma master bedroom is accessed via the staircase off the living room and has a king-sized bed and ensuite shower room. The other two bedrooms are on the ground floor along with the main family bathroom. We provide all bed linen, blankets, towels, shampoo, body wash and soap. A wood-burning boiler heats the cottage and all firewood is available free of charge. There are also two large solar thermal panels that provide hot water. On colder days we recommend you light the wood burner and keep it well-fed with the supplied firewood to keep the cottage nice and warm. Electric heaters are available as a backup. Guest access Birch Cottage is a mile from Brockweir village and a 15-minute walk from the village shop and cafe which sells fresh and frozen foods as well as alcohol and gifts. It also has a lovely children’s play area. Driving from Brockweir, the parking area is on the left opposite the cottage. Roads to the cottage are along typical countryside lanes. If you prefer to travel via public transport, buses from Chepstow and Monmouth stop at the nearest bus stop which is a 20-minute walk away. Other things to note 1. This is a tranquil spot so it is not suited for party groups, stag or hen parties. Please do not play amplified music outdoors. 2. To look after the cob flooring, please do not wear shoes inside the cottage. We provide slippers for you, but please bring your own if you have a favourite 3. The wood-burning stove in the living room feeds the radiators and underfloor heating. On colder days, we advise you to light this for at least a few hours. Wood and firelighters are available in the cottage and can be replenished from the wood store in the patio garden. Back-up electric heaters are provided for use if needed. Solar thermal panels on the roof provide hot water and backup electricity is provided so hot water is always available.
