Spacious Green Gallery House Near Natural Bridge

The Green Gallery House is on 100 acres of land, backing up to the Jefferson National Forest. It's a nature enthusiast's dream location, surrounded by wonderful trails, swimming holes, tourist attractions and beautiful scenery. The 1,600 square foot, 4 bedroom house is part of a complex of buildings that used to be a Civilian Conservation Corp camp back in the '30s and '40s and then a juvenile detention center, which we're now restoring and creating an artist community and campground. The space The house used to be the administrative building of the detention center but we've added a full bathroom and kitchen and made offices into bedrooms. It's a roomy, comfortable house (we think so, anyway). All the bedrooms share the same bathrooms and water heater. There is no master bedroom, though one of the rooms is much larger than the others. There is a room with a crib, in addition to the 4 other bedrooms that sleep 7. All the rooms are on one level, except there are 2 steps down to the dining space and one of the bedrooms. The shower is 32" square so might not be comfortable for a very large person or convenient for a wheel chair. The house is part of a 100 acre property. At the moment we have 14 artists with studios and 18 campsites (log cabins, tent sites and a few RV sites), most of which are back in the forest. Guests are encouraged to explore the grounds. There is a pavilion back in the woods that will remind you of camp as a kid. There's a ping pong table if you'd like to play. There are 2 creeks on the grounds also. We own river property (James River) 2 miles away and allow our guests to fish from there or put in or take out canoes or kayaks. If you're a star gazer you'll love the dark skies here. If you love wildlife, there's plenty of that here too. If you'd like a tour and would like to hear a little history of the place, we'd be glad to show you around if it's convenient for us. All the art in the house is by local artists and is for sale. We'd be happy to show you some of the artist's studios if you're interested. Washington and Lee University and VMI, located in Lexington, are an easy 25 to 30 minute drive away.
