Description

Comfortable private guest house, two-story, full kitchen and full bathroom downstairs, loft bedroom and one large bedroom with propane fireplace upstairs. Beautiful setting, marshland view, birds and wildlife, gorgeous sunsets, quiet nights, fresh air and only 8 miles from downtown. Perfect for a relaxing, creative getaway! The space Our hilltop ranch is one of the most beautiful spots in the area. We're located just eight miles northwest of downtown, seven miles out a two lane paved country road, across a single-lane bridge, with the last half-mile stretch of dirt road leads visitors up the mountain to our private heaven. There's plenty of nature here! The rugged environment of natural sights and sounds will renew your spirit with fresh air, plentiful wildlife (watch for wild turkeys and deer on the road!), lush forest surroundings and wide open meadows. This is a place to relax and let the pressures of life disappear. Our twenty-two acres offers a place for you to breathe deeply, enjoy the view and take nature walks out multiple private roads that meander through the hills. Land parcels here are twenty to forty acres, so neighbors are a distance away yet near enough to create a neighborhood feeling. Our ranch was home to sixteen sheep before we turned it into a horse ranch for our daughter who now has her own ranch. The arena, round pen and horse stalls are still here but aren't used unless horses are hauled in, which isn't often. We call the guest house where you'll stay the "Red Barn Guest House". It's located in our big red barn building where the sheep and horses used to live. Twelve years ago, we converted the animal spaces into a woodworking shop and art studio and remodeled the pre-existing guest unit. Since then, family and friends have enjoyed staying in the Red Barn, and now we're sharing it with visitors like you. The woodworking shop and art studio are our private work spaces which we don't share. Our place is one of the last parcels here on the power grid, so electricity is available in the Red Barn. Our water comes from our well and we have a start-of-the-art filtration system. We collect rain water and store it to insure sufficient water for our needs, and our water system processes fresh, clean water into our home. You'll see several of our water tanks when you turn the corner to our ranch. The Red Barn is private and quiet, has its own entrance porch, deck and carport parking space. The interior has tile flooring throughout and a large tile shower. The kitchen area contains a double-oven range, microwave, small refrigerator, toaster, electric coffee brewer and water heater for tea. There is dining space to accommodate 4 to 6 people on an expandable round table plus a wall-mounted table where you can sit and enjoy the view while eating, relaxing or working. The stairway leads to a loft bedroom and one large bedroom with propane fireplace upstairs. Both have comfortable queen size beds. One bed is a Bamboo brand, an eco-friendly mattress made completely of natural bamboo, which is topped with a 2" foam memory pad, and the other is a Casper mattress, one of the best memory foam mattresses on the market. The loft also has a "bonus bed", a single twin bed with a high quality, comfortable mattress. All beds will provide you with a good night's sleep, comfortable rest and rejuvenation. Each bed is made up with fresh soft white linens and pillows to add to your comfort. WIFI is available here on Satellite. Due to our rural location our connection isn't high speed, but it is fast enough for basic online needs. For our guests who enjoy media, we installed a TV plus a DVD player to watch movies, and a small library of books if you want to curl up and read. Electronic devices work here for email and texting, however, cell phone services are spotty or may not work at all depending on your provider. The Red Barn is cleaned and ready for each guest, and the kitchen includes bottled water, ground coffee, instant coffees, a variety of teas and cocoas, muffins and bananas, a few sodas and snack foods, four dinner place settings, coffee mugs, water glasses, wine glasses, plus utensils, paper plates and cups, flatware for four, plastic utensils, various kitchen utensils and a cutting board. The bathroom is stocked with basic soaps, shampoos, tooth brushes and related peronal care supplies in case you forget to bring your own. Our ranch has become a popular destination for friends and family who travel here each year. We've hosted about 600 guests from 11 countries in our first three years as hosts on Airbnb. Everyone enjoys the fresh, natural, rugged environment, local amenities and unique community. We live a different lifestyle, and you will enjoy a much-needed break from fast-paced city living. Mendocino County is rich with plentiful local wineries, breweries, artisan shops, arts and crafts. We are located centrally just an hour away from the Giant Redwoods to the north, the gorgeous northern California coast to the west, dozens of wineries to the south and the San Joaquin valley to the east. Many of our guests enjoy taking day trips in each direction. Locally, our small town offers several eateries, many family-owned, and some with organic, natural and vegan choices, as well as small old-fashioned restaurants and fast food favorites. We welcome guests from worldwide and are fluent in English, German and French, as well as conversational Italian. Guest access You are welcome to sit outside and enjoy the view from the picnic table or patio chairs ... enjoy your early morning coffee or just watch the sunset. If you are an artist, bring your sketch pad! Our location is great for outdoor drawing and plein air painting. Other things to note A few days before your arrival we will send you directions to our ranch. It's best to arrive before dark, if possible. There are no street lights and signs are small and infrequent out our country roads. Town is 8 miles away out a paved country road, and the last half-mile up the hill is a wide, well-maintained dirt road. It's wise to drive slowly and watch for occasional pot holes. You might want to bring a few breakfast foods or other groceries. A favorite local market is Mariposa where you can buy natural and organic foods. The kitchen is equipped with a double-oven range, pots and pans, dishes and utensils for cooking, plus a microwave, toaster, coffee brewer and electric water heater. We provide a few soft drinks and bottled water, Starbucks ground coffee, several teas and cocoas, plus fresh fruit (in season), breakfast muffins, and a variety of chips and cookies. Our business name is Deer Rock Ranch, business license 115713. We pay county taxes and insurance which are included in the night rate. - TOT (10% Transient Occupancy Tax) - BID (1% Business Improvement District Tax) The BID tax goes to our local tourism organization, Visit Mendocino, which we are happy to support. - INSURANCE (9% Business Coverage)
