Description
Tucked away, yet close to the centre of Colne, Ivy Nest is a unique cosy cottage which has retained many original quirky features. This special place is close to everything, including nearby shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance on the doorstep. It's also close to great walking, with Pendle Hill and Wycollar close by, also Skipton and Bronte Country a short journey away. Ideal for a couple, or singles..Ivy Nest has its own private enclosed courtyard, and is set over three floors. The space Small but perfectly formed, Ivy Nest, is a traditional stone built back to back weavers cottage, built in 1850 (approximately) hidden away, yet close to all amenities. Access is via a door leading into a kitchen on the ground floor. The kitchen is open plan living, with a flagged floor and comfortable handmade 2 seater sofa in front of a large fireplace with logburner to relax and unwind. There is a dining table, dresser with breakfast cereals, washing machine, microwave, oven, kettle and toaster and expresso coffee machine for your use. Fairy lights around the original wooden ceiling in this room, add to the ambiance for a romantic stay at Ivy Nest. Steps lead to a double bedroom with open plan minstrels gallery space, sofa and smart tv for watching all your favourite programmes and films. A bathroom is on this floor, with bath, shower / w.c. The cottage is open plan with steps leading to the third floor mezz deck / minstrels gallery above the second floor, with a single bed and dressing area, and large comfortable swivel chair to relax in. There is also a small desk and chair available there as a workspace if needed, overlooking the balcony space. There is wifi available throughout the cottage and an alexa speaker for all your favourite songs and music! The cottage is exclusively yours and is private. The cottage is not visible from the street, it is accessed via a ginnel, through a wrought iron gate clearly signed above "Ivy Nest" The property is ideal for a couple, or with the extra single bed for a child/ another adult. It is not suitable for a family or toddlers /very young children as there are no safety gates on the stairs, and the property is open plan with 2 small flights of stairs. Parking is available on the street, for residents only, but a visitor permit is provided for your use during your stay free of charge. Please just make sure you display the permit in your vehicle and return it before you leave. Try not to drive off with it as the replacement cost chargeable is £25, from the county council! House trained pets are welcome, but please bring your own pet beds etc. Note that the additional cleaning required for pets means that there is an extra charge of £10 per night per pet. There is a secure enclosed yard with a gate, and an outdoor security doorbell camera, for guests peace of mind. As the cottage is situated close to the town centre, there are not many dog walks directly on the doorstop, but there is Alkincoats Park, just less than 5 mins away by car from the bottom of the lane, which is a large park with nature reserve, tennis courts and a cafe. Just a little further down the road are Barrowford locks where you can walk alongside the canal boats, with great views of Pendle! Pendle Hill and the villages of Barley, Roughlee and Newchurch in Pendle are very near by car and Barrowford also with the shops, bars and cafes close by. Note also :- I factor into guest stays a fair usage policy for using the gas and electric. The heating is set to come on morning and evening, but excessive use of the heating system outside of these times by guests is chargeable as extra. Most guests are mindful of the fair usage policy, and respect the house rules and energy costs of current times, however be aware that if you request the heating to be on constantly, expect to pay accordingly for your usage. I provide some kindling, logs and coal also for the fire but guests are encouraged to bring their own to use, if you wish to enjoy the fire. There is a Sainsburys garage at the roundabout at the bottom of Spring Lane, which sells wood and coal etc, but for guests convenience, I put an additional amount in the shed and ask guests to use the honesty box provided for this, in the kitchen. Guest access The cottage is exclusively for your use. The only part of the cottage that is not accessible is the cellar, which is used for storage. Other things to note Colne itself has got great links with music and the famous Rhythm and Blues festival held here in August every year with visitors coming from far and wide to not only visit but to perform at many of the live venues across the town. The town is also known for Wallace Hartley, the bandmaster on the RMS Titanic that famously played till the ship sank. The local Weatherspoons, within walking distance is named after him and there are many pubs and venues that offer live music on the doorstep. At the top of Colne the bars are more lively and at the bottom end of town, there are several new bars and eating places that have opened, with a more chilled vibe. Carlos Italian restaurant is a 2 minute walk away, as is an Indian restaurant and many takeaways available also.
