Winter: sled/tube or ski/snowboard. Rivers, lakes & natural wonders near. Book early for holiday weekends & festivals. The space Moose Lovers Cabin is a perfect mountain escape from the city. In general, think large yet cozy mountain cabin, southwestern style art and warm welcoming indoor spaces nestled in a beautiful aspen grove. You can cozy up next to the fireplace with a book, blanket and wine. Entertain family and friends on our large covered deck or the downstairs game room. One of our favorite things to do is sit on the deck and listen to the river or watch the dear and bear as they wander by. Yes we do have a loft and it’s the perfect space to make your vacation office, reading nook, or inspirational hideaway/chill out spot. Excellent internet speeds keep you connected, water pressure is on point, and we have all the creature comforts of home. For entertainment, The Dog Bar is just up the street in Cuchara Village. You’re guaranteed great drinks, great food, and a great time! ***4th room, extra beds & bedding*** There are two fold down cots, an air mattress, and extra bedding in the bottom floor bedroom closet. Place cots/air mattress in the adjacent room. Extra bedding can be found in the laundry room or other closets throughout the cabin. Guest access Anything on the property that is not marked private is available for use. Locked or unlocked storage rooms and equipment like furnace, water heater, and tool room are not available to guests. Other things to note Enjoy yourselves and please be respectful. Outside fires are prohibited due to fire danger and no grilling on the deck. This Bear country. Please read the notices provided in the rules section. Information about Bear safety is posted on the refrigerator. **** Winter visitors (Nov - April) have chains or a 4x4, we do get snow! When the snow melts it gets muddy! Summer visitors (May - Nov) book early, we fill up about 6 months in advance! ***** Load Up On Groceries: The nearest grocery store is about 10min away in La Veta, CO. Load up on enough food and drinks for your stay to avoid repeat trips into town. Or...you can eat at the bar! ***** First Aid and Hospital: There is a first aid kit in the main bedroom closet (main floor). The nearest hospital (Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center) is in Walsenburg, CO which is a 30min drive. If needed an urgent care/clinic is located in La Veta, CO, but hours can vary. ******* Cuchara Mountain Park: The park is open and free for day use. Please note that the lifts are not running until the 2021/2022 Winter season. This means activities are limited to tubing/sledding. Yes you can hike to the top and ski/snowboard down (which makes for an awesome day), but it requires superior athletic abilities. Remember, we are at altitude! For skiing/snowboarding in 2020/2021 season: Monarch Mountain, WolfCreek, or Taos Ski Valley are ~2hrs away with good snow and affordable prices.
