There will be an additional fee of $15 per each 15 minutes that checkout is delayed. **Our home is on a quarterly pest control program. If at any time you see palmetto bugs or anything else in the home please let us know so that we can relay this information promptly to our pest control company. On occasion, bugs will enter the home when bad weather is pending, a cold snap is about to occur or if the previous guests left food out or dirty dishes in the sink, which may draw sugar ants. Beyond this, you should not see bugs, insects or pests in the home as it is treated regularly. Please do not leave the door open without closing the sliding screen, (which can allow in mosquitos, midges, flies etc) **Do not run the heat or AC while windows are open as this causes overdue strain on our blower unit and HVAC system! Please do not open windows during inclement weather, and do not leave them open when away from the home. **Please check that all WINDOWS ARE CLOSED, appliances & fireplace are off before leaving the house. A FEW THINGS TO NOTE WHEN VISITING OUR BEACH TOWN: **Many things here can be impacted by the weather, from rip currents, to internet consistency, to power issues, to bugs, to the traffic. Please remember that the weather is out of our control, but we will always do our best to suggest fun & interesting things to do in the event of bad weather. Make sure to check out our Guide Books (on the airbnb app on your phone) for all our favorite local suggestions. Feel free to contact us through the Airbnb messaging app if anything should arise & please use our personal contact info only in the case of an emergency! **Along with the lovable wildlife we have here on the OBX you may encounter others that are not as lovable. Listed below are a few of the most common pests: -Lizards and frogs: Harmless and small... -Spiders & Snakes: Many species, both venomous and non-venomous. When you're on the sound (west side), stay away from the grassy marsh areas, this is where the snakes hang out. They won't bother you if you don't bother them. Just stay aware. We don't see venomous snakes this close to the ocean or the home; they usually hang on the soundside. -"No-See-Ums" or Biting flies: On days when the west winds blow, they fly over from inland and are a nuisance on the beach. Wear bug spray and it will help. They are also less annoying when you sit closer to the water and void the tide line. -Palmetto Bugs: looks like a cockroach but bigger; harmless but plentiful in the south. We understand they aren't fun to see, but every home on the Outer Banks encounters them; just part of island life. They should not be seen often, as the home is treated regularly. -Midges, House flies and gnats: they don't bite but they do love AC so if there's a window cracked or the door is left open, they invite themselves in. Please keep the sliding door (and/or screen) closed for this reason! -Mosquitos- you're in the south, you'll see mosquitos. Use bug spray! (We usually keep it in the hall closet & downstairs utility room) **Bugs are common in the south. Bug spray is always something handy to pack and bring with you.
