Description
SoulFire Farm is a unique, one-of-a-kind oasis in the desert! Originally homesteaded in the 1930's, our farm sits on 12 acres of irrigated pasture. You've found the right place if you are ready to relax & rejuvenate - away from the hustle and bustle of EveryDayLife! Shaded by humongous Mesquite trees, our cozy guest cottage will remind you of simpler times, peace & calm. The country kitchen, comfy queen size day bed, camp style bunk bedroom, bathroom, small porch & patio are all yours to enjoy! The space Our farm is located in the quaint little town of St. David. Our guest cottage was moved to the farm in 1954, from nearby Fort Huachuca. When you enter the cottage, you step right into the spacious, well-equipped country kitchen. We take great pride that we were able to preserve the old, chipped kitchen cabinets, kitchen and bathroom sink to keep that rustic, old country feel. There is a summer camp style bunk bedroom and a comfy queen size day bed off the kitchen. A writing desk is waiting for you to fill your journal or start writing that book you've always wanted (or maybe finish the one you've never finished?!) The bathroom features a sink, shower, regular flush toilet and ample storage space. Please note that the toilet has a cast iron bottom and the enamel is chipped on the inside bottom of the toilet. Since it's fully functional, we don't feel the need to replace it and add it to the landfill. Be assured the toilet was cleaned and disinfected thoroughly. This is just normal wear! ;-) You'll enjoy a large, well equipped country kitchen with seating for 2-4 people. Sip your morning coffee or tea on the small porch! Our farm is in general low tech, low key and no frills... We share our high speed internet access with you! There is no TV in the cottage, cell phone signal is available! We ask our guests to refrain from bringing plastic water bottles to the farm. We can supply filtered water which is excellent and from the town's well. Please bring your reusable water bottle or we can provide glass bottles. There is no restaurant or store in St. David but a 10 minute drive to Benson yields several restaurants. Our go to place is Mi Casa, the best Mexican Restaurant EVER, as well as the local famous old fashioned soft serve ice cream shop with dozens of flavors and the Horseshoe Cafe. (as well as Walmart and Safeway). Historic Tombstone is a 15 minute drive with all its Old Fashioned Western Glory and the Artsy Copper Mining Town Bisbee is a 40 minute drive. We recommend the Screaming Banshee Woodoven Pizzeria, The Vedge (small restaurant built into a cliffwall with a small outdoor garden seating area) and the Italian Gelato Shop. If you're lucky, you might see the Bisbee Waterfall during monsoon rains! Kartchner Caverns and Cochise Stronghold are a short 20 minute drive and under an hour you can visit Chiricahua National Monument as well as Willcox Playa and Crane Lake, which support the second largest over-wintering concentration of Sandhill Cranes in Arizona, between 4,000 to 9,000 birds (about 0.5 Million birders visit our area every year) as well as Brown Canyon in Sierra Vista (and so much more...) Guest access Our farm is located in the lovely town of St. David, in the heart of the lush, tree filled San Pedro River Valley. We are about 10 to 15 minutes from I-10. We live on a paved road, easily accessible from HW 80, just a little ways down from the Post Office and through a typical Arizona wash. If the wash has running water, please use Golden Bell as access road. Our driveway is hidden and we'll give you detailed description upon booking. If you let us know when you'll arrive, we'll be happy to meet you and flag you down. ;-) Our driveway will accommodate any car, truck and smaller trailer. Car parking is available behind the cottage. Large horse trailers will need to be parked along the road (do not enter our driveway if you have a large trailer) and have to be announced prior to arrival. If you are traveling with horses, and you have your own portable panels for a temporary corral, you are welcome to set them up on the property. We also have a paddock with electric fencing available for an additional fee. We've had previously rather poor experiences with people bringing their pets so we have to ask you to observe the following boundaries: We want to remain pet-friendly and accept well mannered and polite dogs. Please let us know prior to your arrival whether you are bringing pets and if so what kind and how many. We can accommodate one medium sized dog or 2 small dogs. The cottage is not equipped for any large breeds as the space is too small. We currently do not have an enclosed yard space for your pets. Have your dog with you at all times. Please clean your dog prior to entering the cottage and do not allow any dogs on any bed. Dogs cannot be left alone in the cottage nor locked into the bathroom or tied up outside. We discourage our own dogs from excessive barking as a courtesy to our neighbors and we would ask you to do the same. We have 4 dogs ourselves and we ask that dogs can only be introduced under our supervision. Please check in with us prior to arrival if you are planning on bringing pets so we can find the best solution for all involved. If you are in a total bind and cannot adhere to our limited pet policy but really need a place to stay, please check in with us and we will see what we can do. THANK YOU! Other things to note We want you to have a great stay at SoulFire Farm! The cottage is heated during the cooler times of the year with a wood stove. If you’ve never built a fire before, we are happy to help you. There is also a electric heater for you to use for supplement heat. Our property is secluded, but we live in a farming community. Please know that nature surrounds you including the usual Arizona wildlife. Arizona is a dry state and we can be without rain for months. With almost 50 plus animals on 12 acres and the usual Arizona weather dust is inevitable. Dust can show up minutes after I thoroughly cleaned. The wood stove produces ash... and if you don't love the homey smell of a wood stove, the cottage isn't for you because that's your primary heat. (And YES! We supply the wood for you!~) Our guest cottage is from 1954, the walls and floor are not level, the flooring, cabinets, appliances and sinks are not brand new and show wear and tear... AND they do their job as intended! ;-) For me, that's part of the charm of our farm. SoulFire Farm provides a simple, no frills experience... And if you LOVE animals, nature and a simple stay on a unique, one-of-a-kind farm... you'll love it too! You might also hear cows mooing, horses whinnying, dogs barking, crickets chirping, frogs croaking... We might use the tractor or our neighbor might pound in a fence post. Like I mentioned, we discourage our dogs from excessive barking but are not in charge of any neighbor dogs. Our road is quiet but once in a while you will hear a car driving by... country living at its finest!
