Vinovassilema Stone Cottage

This romantic stone farmhouse is a renovated pre-earthquake warehouse, restored in 2020. The architectural features of the exterior have been preserved whilst inside the space has been transformed into a simple rustic open plan farmhouse; The space Interior features include an original vaulted wooden ceiling and stone walls. Other quirky features include original light switches, exposed old fashioned copper pipes, a copper shower and a free standing stone basin. The farmhouse is entirely open plan; the light and airy space contains a double bed and shower, a partitioned toilet, a place for hanging clothes, a sofa and a small functional kitchen. Outside you can prepare dinner on the BBQ, there is a sink outside, and relax on the large patio and take in the spectacular mountain vista. To preserve the traditional architecture and respect the simplicity and aesthetics of the building we kept the old stones and tiles. Also we collaborated with a local carpenter for making each wooden item looks exceptional. We decided to add a roof fan to maintain the house cooler by letting the fresh air surrounding the cottage. However we had to place an Aircon due to the intense heatwaves during the Summer. Guest access The cottage can be reached by car and there is an open parking space for 2 cars Other things to note Located in a the south of the island in the quiet, very small traditional village of Thiramona nestled at the foot of Mount Ainos the farmhouse has terrific views. Marias café, located a few meters from the farmhouse, serves food and sells the basics like fresh eggs, bread and vegetables. Ideal for nature and wine lovers seeking solitude the farmhouse belongs to the Petrakopoulos Winery and is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. During your stay take the opportunity to have a free wine tasting experience. Visit our winery and sample our high quality organic wines and learn about the local and rare grape varieties the island offers, followed by a nice hike around our vineyards on the cliffs that enjoy amazing sea views. We can organise for you as well a special olive oil experience and tasting and tour the over century old olive groves. Next to the house and the winery we have a vegetable garden where you can visit to collect fresh season vegetables. Close to the village you will find wonderful beaches that you can reach by car or bike. Visit Koroni Mounda and Lefka beaches famous for fabulous golden sand, nesting careta-careta turtles and amazing sunsets; or the little known Old Sissia Monastery and beach. Katelios fishing port is close by where you can swim or choose from the fish tavernas. Venture into Mount Ainos National Park, a protected area with unique fauna and flora, various walking and hiking trails and wonderful views. A few of the most interesting monasteries of the island are located in this area also, Arginia, Fidousa and Zoodohos Pigi Monasteries where you could see the wild horses too.
