Ruby’s is a charming cottage located 1 block from Downtown and 5 local parks, including Veterans Park (splash pads). Huebel's, the hometown bar, is next door. For larger parties, also reserve Jewell's Foxcroft Cottage, located next door (other side); large fenced yard, dog-friendly, sleeps 4. Arrange to use 8-seat golf cart if you prefer riding to walking. Enjoy a small-town getaway, an easy drive from Austin, San Antonio, or Houston; close to COTA. Bastrop County awaits you! The space It is a charming and cozy home, completely renovated in 2020. Decorated with a Texas-centric flair, it is comfortable with all essentials provided as well as many “nice to have” items to add to your enjoyment of the Cottage and your experience of Smithville. Our favorite spaces are the Dining Room with its welcoming family-style dining atmosphere and the covered Back Patio that invites you to relax and lounge, enjoy a conversation, or choose to have a private moment, book in hand and wine glass at the ready. Family-friendly, the back lawn is a green space for children's activities. Guest access Downtown is only 1 block away and you can easily walk (or take the golf cart), enjoying our small town ambiance with all it has to offer. We have 2 or 3 on-site uncovered parking places in back of the Cottage, on the alley side. Other things to note Smithville is just a lovely place to visit with the intention of relaxing and enjoying the sorts of activities one might expect to find in a small town. Guests also come for family get-togethers and other happy events that take place in nearby venues. For larger groups, consider reserving Jewell's Foxcroft Cottage (separate listing), located next door. If you want to explore a little further afield, look up "Explore Bastrop County" for other ideas. Small special events can be organized with advance notice. And, one of your sister-hosts is a Celebrant should you need someone to officiate for a wedding ceremony. Smithville is an historic town, built first around a riverboat landing, and then the railroad, becoming the largest town in Bastrop county for 50 years. If you’re a train buff there’s a wonderful display of historic pictures at the Chamber of Commerce building. The freight train continues to go through the town periodically on an unscheduled basis. The town fire department and EMT services are provided by town volunteers, which are summoned by a fire house siren. The siren also goes off at noon each day. (There are white noise machines and ear plugs in the night stand drawers if you’d like to use them.)
