Description

Stag Cottage (built C1580) is a beautiful, quaint, historic Grade II Listed building hidden away in the ancient, hilltop Pennine village of Heptonstall. Stag Cottage oozes charm and retains many original features, including stone mullioned windows, arched lintels, wooden beams and a king post truss with wattle and daub infill. A low 4ft 6'' beam separates the kitchen from the living area. The Cottage sleeps 3 people comfortably; a double bedroom with king-size bed and also a single bedroom. The space Stag Cottage is truly remarkable, the Elizabethan history seeps from its wooden beams and thick stone walls. Unusually, the bedrooms (king-size and single, bedding and towels provided) and bathroom (shower cubicle, basin, toilet) are situated on the ground floor. This is because the upstairs space is truly magnificent, with high ceiling together with some low beams, creating a wonderful kitchen/ dining/ living space with wattle and daub intact. The cottage benefits from central heating throughout, easily controlled by a thermostat on the main beam. The kitchen is fully equipped with granite worktops, wooden units; gas cooker, grill and hob; microwave; kettle, toaster, sink; fridge freezer; pots, pans, cutlery, utensils; tea towel. Duck under the charming 4ft6inch beam to the gorgeous living area, with armchairs and sofa, high ceiling, a maze of ancient beams, a king post truss, wattle & daub, arched lintels, all centuries old. There is a discreet Freeview TV (built in DVD) with X Box and games. There is a fold out wooden dining table with chairs. A coal/wood effect electric heater adds to the cosiness. From the master bedroom window and the side window in the living area upstairs, there are delightful far reaching views across the wooded valley of Hardcastle Crags, towards Old Town. You are sure to feel fully relaxed and blissfully happy in this fantastic and enviable space. Guest access Guests have use of the whole cottage, exclusively. Guest check in is via a Yale key, accessed from the key safe mounted to the left of the front door. In addition, the village dungeon or 'lock up' is included as part of Stag Cottage (situated below the master bedroom) and can be accessed from the car park, by guests, for bicycle (or other) storage (the key for the padlock is kept on a hook behind the front door of Stag Cottage). Please note that the Cottage may not be suitable for those with mobility issues, as 9 steps must be negotiated between the car park and Stag Cottage itself, with cobbles, potentially slippery stone paving and no direct vehicular access to the front door. The Cottage itself has a relatively steep wooden staircase and a particularly low 4ft 6in beam between the kitchen and living areas. If in doubt, send me a message. Other things to note Car parking is free in the nearby public car park (just a few steps away). Please note that there is no direct vehicular access to the front door, so those with mobility issues would need to negotiate steps from the car park, or uneven cobbles to avoid the steps. Send me a message if you're unsure or want further mobility details.
