The space Our cottage is a thoughtfully renovated former fisherman’s retreat, simple by design, but full of heart. Pack light because it is quite tight! Just a short, scenic walk from the deep cobalt waters of Green Bay, you’ll witness sunsets here that rival anywhere else on the peninsula. Pack a bottle of wine, a blanket, and your favorite people (or your pup!) and wander across the street to the park for an unforgettable evening. Tucked away in a peaceful corner of Door County, you’re still just 15 minutes from lively towns filled with excellent restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and live music. Outdoor lovers will be in paradise! Our cottage sits in the heart of Door County’s best hiking, with gems like Ellison Bluff, Door Bluff Headlands, and Newport State Park nearby. In fact, we’re surrounded by 11 local parks, one of which has stairs descending the bluff for a dramatic lakeside view. Right around the corner is the famous winding road (yes, the one that winds past Bea’s Pie Shop! Don’t miss the best homemade pies on the planet!). Europe Lake is just a short drive away and perfect for kayaking or paddling, with a peaceful estuary to explore. For the more adventurous, try the Mink River Basin or launch at Garret Bay to paddle over a sunken ship, yards from shore. The quiet roads are ideal for biking, or hop the ferry to Washington Island for endless island trails, a visit to the stunning Stavkirke Church, a strong coffee at Red Cup, and a browse through Island Books. Don’t forget to follow the scent to Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm for a dreamy end to your day. Back at the cottage, mornings begin with the sound of gulls. You will hear cars drive by as the ferry (2 miles away) arrives. In the evenings, enjoy your private yard with a crackling fire under the stars. And on moonless nights, a spectacular view of the Milky Way. The cottage is fully updated with new floors, windows, patio, interior decor, and a well-stocked kitchenette. You'll find cookware and your choice of Keurig, French Press, Chemex, or drip coffee maker! Bring your favorite beans—we’ve got a grinder ready for you! At just 424 square feet, the space is indeed tiny, but that’s part of its charm. It’s an ideal retreat for a couple, a small family, or even a girlfriend’s weekend getaway. We share the grounds with three other cottages and a main house, but your space and yard are private, and our neighbors are friendly, respectful, and kind. We do recommend you pack a small bag or carry-on suitcase, as space is a premium. ********* Unplugged **We don’t have WiFi and not by choice! ** While we love nature, we also love technology. So if you’re a sports fan or need to catch a game, head to Mink River Basin in Ellison Bay, or try Husby’s or the Bier Garten in Sister Bay. We hope the beauty of Door County makes it easier to disconnect for a bit. Verizon and AT&T users will find cell service to be strong. We do have a spare mobile phone in the cabin that you can use to stream movies. Enjoy Netflix on us! ********* Trash Guests are responsible for taking their trash upon departure. You’ll find public bins in most towns and at gas stations. ********* Elderly Guests - Parking & Walkway is gravel - Three steps to enter the front door - Outdoor spaces have various levels - Shower has a small step to enter - Beds are soft - Heat and AC can be adjusted by the guest - Space is very small, please pack light ********* Children The cabin is small and not childproofed. Children are welcome, but there are breakables, and we’re located on Hwy 42, very close to the road (speed limit in 25mph). If your kids need lots of room to roam, our space may not be the best fit. We love kids, but our tiny home may be too snug for those with extra energy to burn! However, most families with children enjoy their stay here. ********* Pets Dogs are very welcome, just let us know in advance. Limit one dog per stay unless you ask for special permission. We even include a special treat for your pup! Please note: there are games in the cottage. While we clean after each guest (including under furniture), the occasional marble or game piece may escape us. Please keep an eye on your pet. ********* Cleaning Policy We are committed to Airbnb’s cleaning protocol. We will clean and sanitize each room. Note, we cannot control the spider webs outside. :) We try, but those little buggers are mighty quick to rebuild. We also spray, so hopefully you won’t find any in the house! Guest access You will have full access to our cottage, except for one cupboard where we keep our personal foods. You will see a few personal items neatly stashed away in the closet. You are welcome to use whatever you need. Other things to note Trash Gills Rock doesn’t offer local trash collection, so guests are asked to take their trash with them upon departure. I know this can be inconvenient, especially if you’re traveling a long distance. If you're truly unable to take it with you, just let me know. I’m happy to make alternate arrangements if needed. There is a cost involved, which I’ll gladly cover if you’re in a bind. I completely understand. When we stay at the cottage ourselves, we take our trash too. It’s not ideal, but it’s part of life up here. Parking We’re located in Windside Condominiums, which has a main drive, but our cottage has its own private drive. Once you arrive, please park in our designated driveway (not the shared lot). Location Perks We’re just steps away from the Shoreline Restaurant, and a 2-minute walk brings you to the harbor. Perfect for catching one of Gills Rock’s famous sunsets! There are also a couple of cute shops in the same area. Down the road in the opposite direction is Gills Rock Coffee. Hours are limited.
