Bolara 60 is a traditional rural stone house (about 250 years old and now beautifully restored) near the medieval hilltop town of Grožnjan. The kuća is a guesthouse with 4 guest rooms; we offer dinners, occasional cooking classes and include a great breakfast. Next door is a farm where our neighbours make olive oil and wine, but otherwise there are no houses around. It's very green and peaceful here, with views into the truffle forest and Mirna valley, and deer, birds and butterflies all around. The space Bolara is a short drive or a scenic walk from Grožnjan (with its famous summer jazz festival), and close to Motovun. Novigrad on the coast is also only 20 mins drive away. Bolara 60 was a traditional stone farmhouse but after being abandoned for about 30 years fell into ruin. It has now been fully renovated (by very skillful Istrian builders and stonemasons!) but we've tried hard to keep the traditional feel. We take our environmental impact seriously: with thick old stone walls and traditional shutters, the house doesn't need air-conditioning, and the heating and hot water come from solar panels and wood from the local forest. Bookings include breakfasts. We also offer dinners on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, which can be booked by giving us at least 2 days' notice. Our food is based around our own vegetable garden, eggs from our chickens, and local producers. Guest access This is a large bedroom with a double bed and a small double bed. The room has a ceiling fan and wash basin with mirror. There is a bathroom with bathtub and walk-in shower, and a separate WC, both shared with one other guest room (Perini). We keep the bathroom and WC very well cleaned and regularly checked and disinfected. We find guests are very respectful and have no problems sharing them with just one other guest room. The guesthouse has a large garden and terraces where you can relax, soak up the view and order drinks anytime. It faces on to the meadows and forests all around us. During your stay We live in the guesthouse too, so we'll be around to help you if you need, give recommendations on where to go or eat, and so on. We'll give you breakfast in the morning, and can provide occasional dinners and cooking classes too on request - Anna is a professionally trained chef and cooking teacher. Other things to note This room has a double bed and a small double bed. Breakfast is included in the room price and served at 9am every day. We also offer dinners on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. If you would like to join a dinner please book in at least 2 days in advance. We have a travel cot available on request. Smoking is not allowed in the house.
