The Jessie Benton Suite is a thoughtfully furnished one-bedroom apartment one block west of St. Louis University. Amazing discounts for longer stays, with weekly housekeeping included. The space The "Jessie" sleeps up to four, with a top-quality Queen bed in the bedroom and an American Leather sleeper sofa — one of the finest sleeper sofas made in America, and a guest favorite. We add a mattress topper to make it genuinely comfortable for sleeping. Base rates are for one or two guests sharing the Queen bed in the bedroom. If your party would like to use the Queen-sized sleeper sofa as a second bed, add $100/month to your reservation. We will dress and prepare the sofa as a bed before your arrival, and change sheets when we come in for weekly housekeeping. Before your arrival, the Jessie Benton Suite will be stocked with welcome teas and treats, freshly roasted coffee, and light breakfast foods to start your stay. You will find a range of cleaning supplies and complimentary toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, Q-Tips, etc.). To keep rates low, we do not replenish these items during your stay. There is an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, and hopefully everything you will need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped for basic meal preparation. A round oak table in the main room offers seating for four. The Jessie Benton Suite has dedicated high-speed internet service. The large smart TV in the living room has an antenna for local channels. The "Jessie" is on the ground floor, but has one step leading to the building entrance. A laundromat is available in the building's basement. Smoking is not allowed in the apartment or anywhere on the premises. Upon making a reservation, you will be notified of SF Shannon House Rules. Creation of a reservation indicates acceptance of SF Shannon policies. Parking is first-come, first-served in three designated parking spots on a lot adjacent to the building. These parking spots are the closest to the front door, and serve the two guest apartments in the building. Our staff and maintenance workers use these spots during work days. Location, Location, Location The Jessie Benton Suite is in the Central West End, one block west of St. Louis University. It's an easy walk to Cortex, City Foundry, IKEA, Grand Center and the heart of the Central West End. Walk to Metrolink, the city's regional rail line. A major supermarket is across the street. Numerous dining options are within walking distance, as are coffee houses, pharmacies, gyms, parks, museums, theater, and all the amenities of a great urban center. That being said: The Jessie Benton Suite is right inside the front door of the apartment building, and adjacent to the lobby. You may hear noise from other residents coming and going. Before making your reservation, also note that The Fremont - the building that is home to the Jessie Benton Suite - is located on Lindell Boulevard, one of St. Louis' main arterial streets. This means that you may hear street noise during your stay. For your convenience, we stock ear plugs in the apartment. Is It Safe? Since all SF Shannon vacation rental apartments are in the historic core of St. Louis, we occasionally receive the question: “Is it safe?” This question is impossible to answer, because we typically know nothing about the person asking it. The co-owners live within walking distance of each SF Shannon vacation rental. Rachel, Karen and their spouses have raised their families in their respective neighborhoods, and have always felt perfectly safe. The Central West End Neighborhood Security Initiative has installed exterior security cameras on The Fremont, the building that is home to the Jessie Benton Suite. In the event of any criminal activity, a police officer employed by that taxing district has the ability to monitor camera footage. Why that name? The Jessie Benton Suite is named after Jessie Benton, daughter of Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton and wife of John C. Fremont, the Republican Party's first candidate for US president in 1856 (before Abraham Lincoln). The building is named after John Fremont, so it seemed appropriate to name the very first SF Shannon vacation rental after his wife. The official name of the apartment is: Jessie Benton Suite at The Fremont. The "Jessie" has a number of excellent books on both Jessie and John. Guest access The apartment is all yours! The basement laundry room, hallways, lobby and elevator are shared with other guests and residents. Other things to note The Jessie Benton Suite has central air conditioning with its own thermostat. Winter heat comes from the building's original steam radiators, fed by a central boiler that runs one to six times daily depending on the forecast. The radiators may clank when the boiler kicks on. This is normal; it's the soundtrack of a historic building. No pets. No smoking anywhere on the premises. Laundry & Housekeeping Use quarters or an app for the laundromat in the building's basement. Weekly housekeeping is included. We make the bed with fresh sheets, swap out towels and linens, dust, and vacuum. Housekeepers do not wash dishes or take out trash.
