Highland Cottage is only 700 metres away from Leura Mall at a quiet side of the street. This original 1920 beauty is recently renovated with modern amenities. Sipping a glass of wine in front of the fireplace or a cup of tea in the nostalgic sun-room, you can hold an imaginative dialogue with the miners who built this cottage while Leura was surrounded by bush a century ago. The space Highland Cottage is ideal for friends and families to experience the authentic Blue Mountain country lifestyle with modern comfort and convenience. We are only 700 meters away from Leura Mall and Leura train station. The Leura Mall is the heart of Leura village. A ribbon of food, fashion, and homeware boutiques with a row of blossoming cheery trees down the center. An assortment of cafes dots the mal from end to end. In the evening, Leura offers cool cocktail bar and fine dining establishments. Highland Cottage is surrounded by greens. You can find maple trees, lemon trees and even strawberries in the front, back and the side. With its classical layout, you will enter the house through a spacious and bright sun-room. It’s perfect to sip a cup of coffee or tea in the morning or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening while gazing the sunrise or sunset. All of our three bedrooms are elegantly decorated with luxurious sheets, down duvets, French flax pillow cases, electric blankets and treasure objects. The configuration of our rooms: Bedroom One: 1 x Queen Bed, master bed room, window views to the sun-room and front garden. Bedroom Two: 1 x Queen Bed, window view to the rear garden. Bedroom Three: 1 Single Bed, kid’s room Large towels are included in all bed-rooms. We have a cosy and modern lounge where the main entertainment and social area is located. The centre of the lounge is the original fireplace. Surrounding the fireplace, there are digital TV, coffee table and a large sofa. The central section of the house is a very spacious kitchen and dining area. You will find another original fireplace in this area. It has an old-school cooktop one can still boil hot water on top of it. This area can easily fit 6 people for dinner. It is very communal and perfect to enjoy a family meal or a romantic dinner after a full-day activities in the mountains. The entire house is decorated with notable artworks from Melbourne based artist Cate Maddie. She is well known for natural still objects with a modern perspective. We haven’t forget your furry friends. Our pets absolutely love our house and gardens. I am sure yours will too. Our backyard is a very pet friendly area with lush vegetation and fenced boundaries. Please make sure you will bring beddings and bowls for your pets. We would ask you not to encourage your pets to climb up to our expensive furnitures and beds. Like our human friends, our pets deserve their own space and privacy. Hence there will be a $80 pet fee per stay for each pet. We only welcome maximal 2 pets per stay. During autumn, the garden is lit up with beautiful maple leaves in golden colour. I am sure this is a great photo opportunity. Winter time is our most favourable season. Many guests come to the Blue Mountains to taste the real winter next to the fireplace. We have two fireplaces and we will offer reasonable amount of firewoods during winter season from April to July. If you need more firewoods, it is very convenient to purchase them from the nearby petrol station. Lastly, we would appreciate your full respect to this historical property and the peaceful surroundings. Hence please remove your shoes and allow your feet to feel the natural timber floor. And please do not bring a noisy party to the neighbourhood. Many people love fireplace and firewood. We have prepared reasonable amount of firewood for you to enjoy during the winter months from June to August. Based on our experience, the amount of firewood should be sufficient to get you start for your stay. If you need more firewoods, you can easily buy them from the nearby petrol station. To protect our environment, please consume firewoods responsibly. Apart from the two fireplaces, we have gas heater that can heat up the lounge/kitchen area quickly. There are split air-conditioning systems in the two main bed rooms. They will keep you comfortable both in all seasons - warm in winter and cool in summer. The Blue Mountains is a huge area with a massive National Park featuring many walking tracks. If you are travelling by car you will reach the edge of it after about 60 minutes of travel along the Great Western Highway. Katoomba is the main regional center of the area with many shops restaurants and adventure companies offering tours of all kinds. There is an excellent hop on hop off bus service adjacent to the Katoomba railway station that will take you around approximately 24 local attractions ranging from parks and gardens to historic homes and museums. Katoomba and Leura are joined together. The center of each town is only about 4 km apart. There is a major tourist office located at Echo Point, Katoomba where you may also view the famous Three Sisters after you have collected all the information on the local sights.
