The space Red Rock Hut is an award-winning off-grid escape for two on Tasmania's King Island, designed for comfort and connection with nature in every season. Fully insulated and double glazed, this custom-built tiny house stays warm in winter and cool in summer. Light the indoor wood fire or use the split-system heat pump for climate control. Fast Starlink internet means you can stay connected, or switch off completely. Step outside through large sliding doors to a spacious, open-flow deck that connects the living area with the outdoors. Take in spectacular west-facing sunsets over the Southern Ocean. Soak in the cedar hot tub, unwind in the barrel sauna with a panoramic dome overlooking the ocean, or lay about on the hammock while wallabies pass by. In the evenings, enjoy a glass of wine by the firepit as the stars come out and the waves roll in. Inside, the kitchen is small but well-equipped, with everything you need to cook including a gas cooktop, full-size oven, fridge and freezer, barista coffee machine, toaster, kettle and Weber BBQ. Make the most of King Island’s famous beef, crayfish and cheese, and enjoy your meals indoors or out on the deck. Or, if you’d prefer to take it easy, we can help arrange locally-sourced hampers, fresh produce or even a private chef. The bedroom has a queen bed made up with luxurious 1000 thread count linen for a restful night’s sleep. The bathroom has excellent water pressure, flushable toilet, soft towels and luxury toiletries. There is also a wardrobe, iron and ironing board if needed, though you probably won’t. Although it feels a world away, Red Rock Hut is just a short flight from Melbourne or mainland Tasmania. With no neighbours and everything you need right here, you don’t have to leave the property at all. From the Hut, you have direct access to a white sandy beach with crystal-clear water, where it's not unusual to find the sand untouched but for your own footprints. While remote, it is only a short flight from Melbourne or mainland Tasmania. Red Rock Hut is located 20 minutes from King Island airport, 25 minutes from the main township of Currie and 20 minutes from Cape Wickham Golf Course.  Guests can enjoy private direct access to the beach with diving and snorkelling spots. Southern rock lobsters and black and greenlip abalone are found here (a Tasmanian Recreational licence is required for those who wish to take on-shore).  Red Rock Hot is fully secluded, however shares the property with the main residence - Buttons by the Beach located 500 meters away. Other things to note Red Rock Hut is proudly eco-friendly and completely off-grid. The tiny house was designed to tread lightly, with no reliance on mains infrastructure. Solar panels power the Hut, and freshwater is sourced from a natural spring and treated through UV and filtration systems. The system is generous — enough to power three tiny houses — but during shorter winter days, running high-powered appliances like the heat pump or air conditioner overnight may deplete the batteries. The wood-fired hot tub and sauna are part of the experience. They take time to heat and require guests to be confident lighting and maintaining a fire. Full instructions are provided, and we’re only a message away if you need anything during your stay. Please note that King Island can experience wild weather, especially wind. In these conditions, getting the hot tub to temperature may take a little longer and require a hotter furnace. The sauna and indoor wood heater are more sheltered and easier to manage.
