Description
Filled with colour and an abundance of comfort, Tanhouse is a classic Sussex house that offers the perfect rural escape a stone’s throw from London. Set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Beauty, with the coastal beaches of Camber and Winchelsea a mere 15 minutes away. This secluded picture-perfect house offers total peace and relaxation: bedrooms where the only sound is birdsong; sunbathing by the pool; dipping in and out of a selection of literary classics from the library. The space The interior An eclectic mix of upcycled pieces and modern design, original art, and authenticity intertwine inside this homely country house. Literary enthusiasts will be in their element at Tanhouse with a wide range of classic and modern books lining the shelves in the library. The attention to detail in every room is immaculate, which is not a surprise given the owner’s profession as an Interior Designer. Come night, you can sink into comfortable sofas in front of a roaring log fire whilst watching the horses gambol in the field opposite, or sit on the veranda and watch the sun set whilst enjoying the best of the excellent local wines. The exterior Tanhouse is a period weatherboard house typical of the region. Built in the 18th Century and extended over the years, the house is a grade 2 Listed Building. Situated down a quiet country lane, but close to the main amenities of Peasmarsh, you enter through a discreet gate, with ample parking for guests and visitors. From the parking area, the driveway leads uphill as the house rises up on the horizon. An ornamental front garden greets you with aromas of lavender, rose and wisteria. Out back, there is a manicured and fully dog-proof garden with a heated swimming pool making the most of all day sunshine. If you’re lucky, you might well see the odd Spitfire overhead, on its way to Dover. Guest access The entire property Other things to note Family Babies and children are very welcome. One travel cot and one highchair are available. Warning: the swimming pool and pond areas are not fenced off. Toddlers must be supervised at all times. Being an historical building, the property is not adapted for disabled guests, as all bedrooms are upstairs and accessibility is limited. Pets 2 dogs allowed. Pet crates, dog beds for medium sized dogs and dog bowls are supplied. Secure garden. Access and parking Access to the property is via a single track country lane and there is ample parking for both guests and visitors. Cleaning and Gardening Housekeeping can be arranged midweek if required. In order to maintain the garden, every second Tuesday there are two gardeners in attendance. We will check with you to minimise any disruption. Private catering and deliveries Please ask for details. We know a range of chefs in the area including a recent Masterchef semi-finalist. Food shops can be delivered by Ocado, Waitrose, and other supermarkets. For special food orders we can recommend the very best local meat, vegetable and seafood suppliers. Ceiling Heights As the house is very old there are some parts of the house that have low ceilings - this includes part of the library downstairs and the attic bedroom.
