Description

Walnut Grove Farmhouse, a renovated 1930s era home, is a remnant of an old farm. We are situated on 17 acres of rolling hills with handsome views from the upper pasture along with a stand of 14 walnut trees. Sit a spell on the porch, listen to the trickling brook (a roaring brook when we get significant rain), the sound of birds, the sounds at night and maybe some turkeys will venture through. We are located midway between Franklin and Dillsboro, Sylva, Cullowhee. The space The Farmhouse offers respite and comfort. Take the opportunity to relax and ponder the past in this Appalachian Mountain farming community. Plenty of outdoors to explore, hills to climb, places to check out in the community. The Farmhouse is equipped with heating/air (mini-splits) and electric fireplace stove that provides heat and/or lovely ambiance. Kitchen with most amenities. Please feel free to ask if you need something. The Farmhouse offers two bedrooms with benches, space under benches, pegs to hang clothes, first aid kit, bathroom with ceiling heater, hand and body soap, shampoo and conditioner along with washcloths, bath and hand towels and two newly added make up mirrors. Forget something? Check the guest cabinet or ask especially if you have an immediate need. The high ceiling in the main living area highlights the loft that creates an amazing openness. The loft, however, is off-limits to guests due to safety concerns. Walnut Grove Farmhouse is also a working farm from Spring through Fall. There may be a small group of Black Angus often with calves that you may or may not see depending on where they are on the farm. If the gate to the pasture is open you are welcome to walk up to the top. If the gate is closed/locked we will be happy to unlock or find another way of access. We cannot take the chance of any cow or calf escaping! At times there may be farm and property maintenance chores occurring. We also ask the when exploring the higher pasture that you do not go past the flags posted in the ground. State-maintained gravel to property entrance. From there AWD or 4WD is recommended but not required. Travel through the open gate to the Farmhouse with a steady pace of 15-20 MPH. Once entering gate the drive to The Farmhouse is circular. No pets. Not handicapped accessible. No parties! Guest access Access Farmhouse using the 4 digit code given to you to open box that holds the key. The Farmhouse and surrounding pastures are for your enjoyment. Feel free to explore. We would love for you to walk to the high pasture for the beauty and the view. However, the gates are locked when cattle are in the pasture. We cannot risk any cow or calf escaping. When exploring nature it's a good idea to use insect repellent. Other things to note There are local maps and other info in the basket near the front door. We offer a selection of reading material located in the basket (local history, wildlife, etc.) along with games and cards in the basket and a selection of Our State magazines and others. Please touch base with us if you have questions about our local community. We love sharing our favorites!
