The Irota EcoLodge premises consist of three spacious, luxurious and well-equipped holiday villas and a shared natural swimming pool (size 6x16m). Each house (170 m2) has its own style: The Lower House is the rustic, countryside type, the Middle House has a retro, 1960s feel, while the Upper House has a sleek and modern design. As your well-equipped large kitchen suggests, your villa is designed for self-catering. You enter through the entrance hall wit hits antique bench, then you proceed to the large living room with its big fireplace, its glass wall facing the terrace and its generously dimensioned open kitchen, all designed in warm, brown-red colours. The period furniture has all been locally purchased and renovated, while the kitchen has everything you need to make a simple - or very elaborated meal. From here, you get to both downstairs bedrooms, each with their own bathroom and antique linen trunks. One bathroom is equipped with a bathtub, while the wheelchair-accessible bathroom has a shower. From both bedrooms you have direct access to the terrace, which in turn leads to the lawn and the pond. From the living room, the wooden stairs lead to the cosy reading corner and the spare bedroom. All three bedrooms have two beds, which can be used as single beds or converted into double beds, according to your own wishes. In the utility room you will find a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner and other utensils for daily housekeeping purposes. The terrace has a comfortable outside table with 6 chairs and boasts a lounge bed, for which you will find comfortable covers in the house. From the garden, your private boardwalk will get you to the swimming pool. Next to the back door, there are outdoor cooking facilities at your disposal: a grill and a stove for the quintessential Hungarian experience: the ‘bogrács’ (kettle) used to make your own goulash. The natural beauty of the Cserehát region, of which Irota is called the gateway, is located on the south side of the Hungarian-Slovak border and is defined by the Sajó, Bódva and Hernád rivers. Compared with the rougher, Slovak side of the area the Cserehát is undulating and covered with forest. It also has a thriving wildlife. Visitors will see a lot of foxes and deer. The usually shy wild boars are less visible, but also present in large numbers. The hills are 250 to 300 meters high on average. The area is popular with hikers, bikers, fishermen and hunters, while the large variety of bird species makes the Cserehát an ornithological destination par excellence. Close is Edelény, 20 kilometres away from Irota. This little town is especially good for day-to-day shopping, but also boasts the recently completely renovated L'Huillier-Coburg Palace. The costume movie in 3D prior to the tour is only in Hungarian, but very rewarding nevertheless. A nature reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aggtelek National Park is a 30 minutes drive away and is especially renowned for its Baradla Cave, a 26 kilometres long underground system of stalagmite caves. Tours begin from both sides in the villages of Aggtelek and Jósvafő respectively. We are happy to assist you with information and making reservations. Miskolc with its 170,000 inhabitants is the third city of Hungary after Budapest and Debrecen. In spite of its pleasant pedestrian main street, the city itself, can unfortunately not exactly be called beautiful. However, there are certainly reasons for a visit: for example, the now renovated Diósgyőr fortress on the outskirts of the city is worth the trouble, especially since it regularly hosts theatre performances and festivals. The resort town of Miskolctapolca, now part of Miskolc, is home the renowned cave baths (Barlangfürdő), where the visitor of these thermal baths can actually swim through the cave system. In Miskolctapolca you can also take the bobsleigh track or go e-karting in the Avalon park. In Varbó, at the foot of the Bükk Mountains, you can take a Segway tour with a guide, ranging from half an hour to two hours. The enchanting Palace Hotel at Lillafüred is also recommended, partly because of the scenic ride with the little forest train that gets you there, but also because the ‘ Végállomás' restaurant at the departure point of the train. The large and well-stocked market on central Búza tér (Wheat Square) is very convenient for the purchase of fresh food. Miskolc can be reached by car from Irota in 45 minutes.
