Description

The Old Station (Snettisham Railway Station) a self-contained annexe attached to the former Station Master's House on the Royal Norfolk Sunset Coast once visited by Sir John Betjeman. It has 2 bedrooms both with ensuites and walk-in wardrobes, a kitchen, utility room, lounge and dining room. A mile from the beach and RSPB bird reserve where spectaculars can be seen, with an array of beaches close by. The village has an award-winning pub, Michelin listed restaurant and is 4 miles from Sandringham The space The annexe - the former Snettisham Railway Station, is comprised of the old waiting room, ticket office and ladies waiting room. The old coal and lamp stores together with the outside facilities have now been replaced with two new bedrooms, one with a super king sized bed, the other with two large singles. Both bedrooms have en-suites and walk-in wardrobes. There is a lounge, dining room, fully equipped kitchen and utility room together with ample off-road parking. Snettisham is a delightful village with a magnificent church overlooking the village cricket green. It is close to numerous historic venues including the Royal Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall and many others. The beach is a mile away as is the RSPB bird reserve, with lots of other beaches close by such as Holkham, Brancaster, Wells and Hunstanton. Wild Ken Hill is a short walk away as is Snettisham wood where wild pigs and ponies frequent the forest along with the deer. Golf, horse-riding, watersports and cycling are also nearby. The village hosts two public houses, one award winning: The Rose and Crown, a supermarket and Michelin listed restaurant, The Old Bank with its sister micro-bakery and coffee shop, The Old Store. There is also a Fish and Chip Shop close to the beach. There is certainly something for everyone, please see our guidebook for further details. Guest access Whilst guests can use the entrance terrace and the outside front access area, the platforms are not included as part of the booking due to health and safety reasons. Special arrangements may be negotiated with the hosts during your stay. Other things to note Station House is the old Station Master’s house and the annexe is the old station. It is now a disused station but still retains many of the old railway features. Martin and Debbie Perry purchased the property recently and are updating and restoring it. Snettisham was a railway station on the King's Lynn to Hunstanton line which served the village of Snettisham, ten miles north of King's Lynn in North Norfolk, England. The railway marker depicting this is still on our down platform. Opened in 1862, the station closed along with the line in 1969 Some excellent historic video footage of Sir John Betjeman's journey from Kings Lynn to Hunstanton can be accessed online via BFI Player where he stops off at Sandringham and Snettisham and recounts: “I can think of few pleasanter places to hang about in on a sunny afternoon like this than Snettisham Station”
