Description

Huge, cozy, and comfortable basement apartment with plenty of room to stretch your legs and unwind. Located in a gracious, stately brick home with gardens on a secluded, quiet street, the apartment has a perfect location in Lexington's historic "Golden Triangle" just one block away from the town's shops, restaurants, galleries, theater, and W&L University. The space This historic home was built in 1934 by Charles Locher, the owner of a local brick factory in Glasgow, "Locher Brick." Locher built the house as a showcase for brick, sparing no expense on unique architectural features and exquisite ornamental details. During your stay, take a few moments to inspect the long-short Flemish bond, dual brick colors, rounded "bull-nose" sills and base of the exterior. Snugly housed in the fully finished and furnished basement level of the only house in town with a brick foundation, guests will be warm and cozy in the winter, and naturally cool in the summer. In keeping with the brick theme, an original brick wall is exposed and the vintage linoleum floor is a brick pattern. To enhance the brick tones, the apartment is decorated with warmly colored textiles, rugs, and artwork. Occupying 1200 sq. ft., the apartment has ample space to spread out. The 40' long continuous space at the front of the apartment--accommodating living room, dining room, and workspace in between--conveys a feeling of openness. The living area, featuring a sofa bed, coffee table, rocking chair, games cabinet, and built-in bookshelves with large library, is a comfortable place to hang out, talk with friends, read, play games and do puzzles, watch vintage videos, stream movies on the TV, or even play guitar. The dining room has a large round table for 4, shelving for pottery, a console table, and a closet. Between the living and dining rooms is a workspace with large table with lamps, outlets, and Internet for those guests who need to work or hold Zoom meetings. The well-lit dining room table also serves well as a second workspace. A sliding partition can separate the dining from the living room areas in case more privacy is needed for a guest on the living room sofa bed, or someone working at the dining room table. The large floor plan contains enough open space to do yoga or place an inflatable double mattress. The lighting in the dining room, living room, and hall has recently been updated with moveable lights on dimmer switches for a softer, warmer glow. The rear of the apartment contains the bedroom, large walk-in storage closet, bathroom, hall, and kitchen with washer and dryer. The bedroom has a firm queen bed with quality sheets and pillows, two dressers, a large double closet, and suitcase racks. The fully equipped kitchen has a coffeemaker and everything you need to cook. If you need something that is not provided, just let me know. Guest access Guests have full access to the entire apartment. They also have access to the backyard, patio, and picnic table, but not the screened-in back porch. With advance permission, guests can also access the grill on the back patio (grill tools are provided in the apartment). The front yard is under renovation since a wind storm blew down my maple tree last spring. Once the new pathways, bench, and flower beds are finished, guests will have access to the front yard. While the yard is under reconstruction, however, guests are kindly asked to avoid the front yard. I apologize for any inconvenience. Other things to note Please be aware that Barclay Lane is a one-way and narrow street that does not allow street parking on our end. Hence, you must enter Barclay Lane from Lee Avenue, and not Myers St., despite what your GPS might say! I was once given a ticket for pulling into my driveway from Myers St, just around the corner.
