Métis Lodge / Maison des Métis Faunique Reserve
Description
This historic provincial heritage site & ital/permaculture farm which was originally built in 1870 as a Métis fishing lodge for the Indigenous guide of the lord of the Matapedia region is on a 118 acre faunic reserve at the foothills of the Appalachian mountains , and the front of the lodge goes up to the Matapedia river for which we have rivershore rights. Full of various mixed trees and medicinal plants of the boreal forest, the land is also rich in numerous berries and teeming wildlife. The space This is a rustic old farmhouse which is partly renovated with a historic feel to give you all the basic amenities of an airBnB with a full wildlife and offgrid experience at the same time. There is ADSL and wifi if needed, as well as a range of medicines, spices and vegan superfoods, which are all included in the stay, along with 2 organic vegan meals a day. Guest access Very simple to find, just turn into the faunic reserve right off the main 132 highway before the actual entrance of Sainte-Florence (but a few kms past the village sign), past Causapscal (about 8 kms further). You will see a blue farm on the right and then a sign for camping du Bois-Joli, we are the yellow farmhouse on the left right past that. During your stay I will be entirely available and at your service for whatever you wish during your stay, from being a tour guide in the forest or region, including scenic waterfalls and historic Métis sites across neighboring towns and villages, I can also drive you wherever needed, however as I am a not-for-profit worker and have very little income since COVID I rely entirely on your kindness for any additional services, the donation fee of which is entirely at your discretion as long as basic service expenses such as gas are covered. Practically all the money I make from this AirBnB as a non-profit worker goes back to a Canadian based grassroots non-profit which benefits Indigenous women and children and assists the renewal of their traditional and sacred principles, medicines and cultures. The funds are matched 6 times by sponsors as well so your donations and the room price go a very long way towards helping worldwide diasporic communities in places where families sometimes survive off of 200$ in a year.
