We are located in Southwest Ranches, located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. About 20 miles, or 40 minutes by car, from Hollywood beach. In the year 2000 Southwest Ranches was incorporated as a municipality in order to preserve its rural lifestyle. This is a semi-rural area, so there is limited street lighting at night. This also means it can be truly lovely at night, especially when the moon is out. Getting around There is no public transport in the neighborhood, so you will need a car. Without traffic: - Fort Lauderdale airport (FLL) is approx. 30 minutes by car - Miami airport (MIA) is approx. 35 minutes by car - Sawgrass mall is approx. 20 minutes by car - Hollywood beach is approx. 40 minutes by car WiFi - We do not provide Hi Speed internet at this guest house. Car, bike, Uber, taxi, horse, Miscellaneous factors to consider regarding our Florida wildlife: -> This is a semi-rural area, and there are raccoons in the neighborhood. From time to time, especially at night, they may walk around. If you want them to scoot, hiss at them. -> Florida is prone to insects: mosquitoes, ants, cockroaches, spiders, etc. Please bring your mosquito repellent. -> We regularly have insecticides applied by a professional. Though we do our best to eliminate any cockroaches from view, you may see a dead one. If you would see a live one, it is because it has migrated from a neighboring property. - During the day you may see outside a variety of lizards. At night you may see geckos (white lizards) on the outside walls. We consider them beneficial in helping us keep insects at bay. - At night you may see or hear frogs and toads, especially after heavy rain. Don't let your pets touch the toads. Some varieties are poisonous to them. Other factors to consider that may impact your say: - We live in a semi-rural area and our electricity grid is not 100% reliable all the time. Sometimes there is an outage, but they are usually short lived. When they occur I will do my best to keep you informed on status of the outage. - Our Cable provider is Comcast-Xfinity. They provide us a great range of TV and internet services. But keep in mind, sometimes there is an outage. Outages are very inconvenient of course, and when they occur I will do my best to keep you informed on status of the outage. - South Florida is of course known for its Hurricane season. In case of a major hurricane that could be a problem for your stay. Please follow travel advisory and local guidelines carefully, for instance when recommended to leave. We charge a cleaning fee: - If you book our Guesthouse you will see we charge a cleaning fee of $100. In our view this is quit steep, but due to Covid-19 we apply Airbnb's rigorous 5-step enhanced cleaning process. In addition we leave the guesthouse unoccupied for 72 hours after each stay.
