Description

Upper level separate apartment. Short stroll to Earlham College campus, ball fields, tennis courts, stables and Athletic Center. 5 houses up from the President's house. Windows galore offer natural lighting. Quiet neighborhood. Hardwood floors give that cozy feeling. Guaranteed clean and private. Well-behaved pets welcome. Breakfast not included. Coffee, tea, microwave, toaster oven and refrigerator in apartment. Host lives in lower apartment with dog and 2 cats. Chickens in the back yard. The space This house is a classic Techbuilt home built in 1955 by Earlham college professors. These homes are also called the "Mid-century marvels". The first floor apartment is partly underground and separate from the rental space. Outside siding is cedar and inside has wood panelling throughout. There is baseboard hot water heat which does not dry the air out as much as conventional furnaces. There is also the forced air between rooms which is a health safety factor from viral infections. There is lots of natural light with large windows at both ends of the apartment and all along the sides. The apartment can be one large open room, but the master bedroom can be sectioned off with a folding door. Master bedroom has a standard double mattress bed. There is a small, single bed in the living room. An extra-long sofa (7 feet x 22 inches) is in the living room. A spare double mattress is behind the sofa and can be moved to the floor for extra bedding. Guest self-regulate heat & air conditioner (micro-duct through the wall unit). No kitchen (yet), but the "pantry" has large toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker and separate tea maker, crockpot, refrigerator, dishes and silverware. Covid Measures and Sanitation This is a separate, secure apartment; there is no shared space with your host or other guests. No forced-air central air ducts. The heat is baseboard water, in wall heater/ac and oil filled space heaters. Towels and sheets are: • Put in plastic bags for 4 days before washing. This kills the Covid virus. • Steam washed in a new Maytag washer. • Tables, hardwood floors and other surfaces are sanitized. Your host is a health care professional and trained in Covid protection procedures Guest access Guests have access and use of entire 2nd floor apartment with the exception of a small storage closet. Other things to note Guests are expected to leave apartment in the same condition they found it: tidy, clean with trash collected in outdoor bins. Damages will be documented and deducted from security deposit within 3 days of departure. Pet Policy PET POLICY & ANIMAL FRIENDLY Many folks travel with pets. It is expensive to board them. But there is a reason so few AirBnB hosts allow pets. Many guests have allergies to cat or dog dander and fur shedding. We have chosen to remain pet friendly, but it often involves additional cleaning and repairs to the apartment. Please observe our pet house guidelines below to avoid charges. HOUSE PET GUIDELINES 1. Put your pet’s food and water bowels with them in their cage, or on the mat in the kitchen NOT on the wood floors and/or oriental carpets. 2. Do not leave pets unattended without being crated. Any dog barking from separation anxiety for more than 15 minutes will have to be housed elsewhere. 3. Dogs and cats in new places can have an urge to “mark” their territory. This leads to more “markings” by future guest pets. Report any “potty mistakes” so it can be quickly and properly cleaned. This especially includes the oriental wool carpets. Our super-sniffer dog tells where markings are. So report them ASAP to avoid cleaning charges. Cat spays incurs a $100 cleaning/deodorizing fee from security deposit. 4. Do not use bedspreads, blankets or pillows for pet bedding; BRING YOUR OWN. This helps keeps fur and danders out of the bedding for future guests with allergies. 5. Keep pets off the beds and furniture – no kidding! A vacuum is in the closet if needed to get up animal hair or cat litter. 6. Report any damages your pet has done including: paws through a screen door, potty mistakes, chewing on furniture, shredding pillows and anything else so we can fix it quickly. 7. For cats, bring the litter and litter box that your cat is used to using. Clean up any kitty litter spread on the floor or carpets. 8. Pet-related damages will have the expense paid from your AirBnB security deposit. PET FEES. We currently are not charging pet fees due to the clean and thoughtful ways guests have been handling their animals. Please help us keep this policy. Thank you!
