The space "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Charming 250 sf wood cabin, with queen mattress in sleeping loft. Cabin is surrounded by several paths through forest acreage, alive in winter rains with matsutake, black morels, king boletes and chanterelle mushrooms. Cabin is 75 feet downhill from private driveway. The property is located near the end of a mountain dirt road, on a coastal ridge, 3 hours north of San Francisco. CHAPTER 2: I got up early and bathed in the pond; that was a religious exercise, and one of the best things which I did. – Thoreau Evoke your own narrative experience of Thoreau's 2 years spent in a cabin near Concord Mass. You may not be jumping into the cold Pacific Ocean, for example, but you're only spending 5-7 nights! You can practice the art of the mini sponge bath at the kitchen sink. There is hot running water in the cabin. PLUS you will gain the practical knowledge of another charming throwback to Thoreau's era –an adjacent outhouse. Although there is no 21st century bathroom/toilet at the cabin, private outhouse has had minimal use over the years. Path to and from privy is floodlit. Cabin is electricity (surge protected) and features small cooking stovetop and propane heat. Architect designed steel counter tops and wood cabinets. Some creature comforts (down blanket and Corbusier chaise), along with writing table, chair, ink pen, manual typewriter, ream of paper and small literary library. The geographical area features many hillside and coastal hiking trails, an historic lighthouse, restored movie theater, French bakery, library, and fine dining. Wine tasting tour, 1 hour by car, in the Anderson Valley (still free). The cabin is available for stays of 5-7 nights and will be undergoing a few simple upgrades in the years ahead. Come visit while Thoreau's cabin remains in its simplest incarnation, bargain pricing. Guest access Heat. Wi-Fi. An acre of redwood, bull pine and tan oak forest surrounds the cabin. The dirt road offers an excellent (if vertical) 3 mile hike. Other things to note Small space ideal for one or two guests with a serious project (i.e. write your book!) and/or a deep hibernation in the forest for a recharge of batteries. Cabin is popular and newly available only for stays of 5-7 nights. If you are looking for a longer stay (of up to one month), please check with us first for availability. Cabin has WiFi and electrical power and is accessible year round.
