Description

One of our two unique spacious luxury Shepherds Huts set in 10 acres of Kent countryside near Port Lympne Safari Park. Please also see our other listing "Buckhurst" Includes breakfast hamper with produce like bread, butter, fruit, orange juice, milk, croissants, pain au chocolat, jam, honey & granola Lots of local walks nearby; within 2 miles of many country pubs; only 4 miles from the historic Cinque Port seaside town of Hythe Under an hour from London and the continent; 4 miles from the M20 The space ***Mountbatten is our brand new Shepherd's Hut, which is now open for guests as of May/June 2022*** Our Shepherd's Huts are two self-contained detached and isolated properties (approx. 60 yards from each other) with Mountbatten being approx. 90 yards from the main property. The hut is ideally suited to couples; however, there is also a bunk bed, above the main double bed, available for one child between the ages of approximately 5 and 10. A travel cot is also available for younger children (size approx 40"/100cm x 28"/70cm x 30"/75cm). The Hut is in the middle of 10 acres of private land. We introduced a contact-free self-check-in and check-out system during the Covid Crisis and continue to operate this policy as it has proven to be popular with and convenient for guests. We also continue to undertake enhanced cleaning and sanitising prior to check-in and provide alcohol-gel and other sanitising products in the Hut for our guests convenience and safety. The size of the Mountbatten is approx. 20ft x 8ft - it has an open plan living, bedroom and kitchen area, and separate bathroom with shower, WC and sink, with a selection of toiletries provided and underfloor heating throughout. The open-plan living area has a double bed with single bunk on top. The beds are made-up with fresh linen prior to arrival; if guests are staying 5 days or longer, we can provide additional fresh linen, on request, which will be left in the Hut to enable a linen change. The kitchen is fully equipped with comprehensive self-catering facilities including a kettle and toaster (both KitchenAid), an electric oven and stove, Nespresso machine, fridge freezer and sink, as well cutlery, crockery, condiments and all the cooking basics guests will require. We provide a seasonal breakfast hamper including croissants, pain au chocolat, bread, butter, preserves, honey, granola, milk, orange juice, as well as tea and coffee (Nespresso pods), biscuits and fresh fruits. When and where possible, we try to provide seasonal home grown fruit as we grow fruit on site, such as strawberries, raspberries, apples, blueberries, pears, damsons, plums and tomatoes. Our breakfast hamper should be sufficient for up to 4 days; we will provide a further hamper (or hampers) for guests staying more than four days, if desired by the guests (again, we do not want to disturb guests who do not want to be disturbed). An example of our breakfast hamper for a family of three for a 2/3 day stay is shown in the photos above (subject to change). As explained below, you have access to most of the 10 acres surrounding Mountbatten. It also contains a private, secluded garden area with pond and a stream in front of the Shepherd's Hut, which has a table and chairs, comfy loungers (cushions can be found in the wooden storage box behind the Hut). The patio has a large fire pit, solely for our guests use, with a hanging BBQ grill. We provide BBQ utensils and a lighter, but guests will need to bring or acquire their own charcoal/wood, fire lighters and any produce they intend to cook; however, we do try to have a small supply of self-light charcoal, kindling and wood for purchase by guests. There is a 32" Smart HD television, which can pick up Smart Apps, including Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITV/C4/C5/UKTV Player, Spotify, YouTube, BBC Sounds?other Radio Channels, and Discovery (all ready to watch and logged in with no login details required); there are an array of other Smart Apps, such as Amazon Prime Player, Apple TV, Disney+, BritBox and BT Sport (requiring guests to use their own login details). There are also board games, toys, cards and books for adult and child guests to enjoy. The Hut also has an Alexa Dot music system, which connects to your phone or tablet by Bluetooth. The internet is now hardwired from the main house, offering improved and very good internet access (63 Mbps - "Fast wifi speed" as classified by AirBNB.) from the hardwired Wifi point located in the Hut. 3G/4G should also be available on most networks. The property is all electric (no gas), including the heating, which is amply provided through underfloor heating throughout and a towel radiator in the bathroom. Our welcome pack provides details of the numerous local pubs and restaurants, if you want to dine or drink out; and lots of information about local tourist attractions and public transport (see the "Guest Access" and "the neighbourhood" sections below for further details). There is ample free guest parking on site (Vehicles and Contents Left at Owner's Risk). ***New for Summer 2022*** With Mountbatten now open in addition to our current Shepherds Hut, Buckhurst, guests have a chance to book extra accommodation (for two further adults and a child) with friends and family. Buckhurst is located 30 yards from the main property with Mountbatten a further 60 yards behind Buckhurst (see separate linked listing). Guest access Whilst Mountbatten provides a perfect base for exploring the Kent Coast, Romney Marsh, the East Kent Countryside and many attractions in the county, it also provides direct access to most of the surrounding 10 acres. This includes a stream which runs through our land, large ponds/small lakes as well as a public footpath which crosses the grounds and provides scenic walks into the yonder of the Kent countryside. Walking sticks, umbrellas and torches are provided for the convenience and comfort of guests. As summarised in the "the neighbourhood" section below, our welcome pack, which we will provide to guests before arrival, provides ample details of the many local pubs and restaurants, shops, amenities, public transport, walks and tourist attractions including: Port Lympne Safari Park (3 miles away) ; the historic Cinque Port of Hythe with its Military Canal, and the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (4 miles away); Ashford with its Designer Outlet and Curious Brewery (5 miles away); Dymchurch Beach and Amusement Park (7 miles away); Folkestone with its refurbished Harbour Arm and Old Town and Sunny Sands Beach (8 miles away); Dover with its Port and Castle (15 miles away); the historic Cinque Port of Rye with its famous Mermaid Inn, Ypres Castle and nearby Camber Sands Beach and Dunes (15 miles away); Tenterden with its medieval High Street, Market, Heritage Steam Railway, Chapel Down Winery, Old Dairy Brewery and Rare Breeds Centre (15 miles away); Canterbury with its famous Cathedral, and Wingham and Howletts Wildlife Parks (15 miles away); Leeds Castle, Historic Rochester with its Castle and Cathedral, and Chatham Historic Dockyard (20-25 miles away). No pets, other than Guide Dogs, please. Other things to note We operate a contact free self check-in and check-out system, but the owners are on hand or contactable for guests. With Mountbatten now open, guests have a chance to book extra accommodation (for two further adults and a child) with friends and family. Please see separate linked listing.
