Description
Our NW Connecticut retreat is equidistant from NYC and Boston and sits on 23 wooded acres with a private spring-fed swimming pond. Built in 2012, it has 3 full bedrooms, 1 office with pullout, 3.5 baths, den, fireplace, modern art & beautiful mid-century modern furnishings. Near Hotchkiss and Salisbury Schools, Catamount, Appalachian Trail, Millerton, Hudson, Great Barrington, Music Mountain, MassMOCA, Jacob's Pillow & Tanglewood. The space We built our beautiful dream house--and then I got a job in California. Barnlike on the outside, inside our place is sleek and modern and built for a relaxed, elegant, grownup life in all seasons. We like to cook and eat with friends, tramp through the woods to the dock and dive into our private swimming hole in summer, watch the sunrise through the trees, sit outside under the stars at night, and curl up with a good book in front of the fireplace or in one of the hammocks. Three queen beds, a queen sofabed in the office, plus 3.5 baths, mean there's plenty of room and privacy. Front porch gets sun in the morning, back patio in the afternoon, and the dock and utterly private pond are beautiful in every season. We tend to rent longterm in winter (Oct to May) and give preference to monthly renters in summer (unless we are in residence). Feel free to email us for more information about availability. Guest access Guests have access to the entire house, the front porches and outdoor patio, and the private trail to our dock and pristine swimming pond. No one else has access to the pond. Other things to note Given the stairs, valuable rugs and unique furnishings, the house is not suitable for very young children or especially rambunctious adults :). Please, no parties. Our road is gravel and plowed in winter but can be rutted after a big storm, so drive carefully. We have a whole-house generator, which means you don't have to worry about losing power in a storm. We have Comcast high-speed wi-fi, cable TV, plus Blu-Ray with Netflix and Amazon Prime access. The master bedroom does not have shades on the windows. If you're bothered by moonlight, you might bring a sleeping mask. (There is usually one in the bedside table drawer.) Some history: The 23-acre property was the site of a Revolutionary War-era iron quarry (which is why we have a deep pond in the woods). You'll note cylindrical holes just off the path that were used to make charcoal to smelt the ore.
