Description

Plawfield Cottage is quaint, a little bit quirky and full of charm. Dating from the 18th century it is to be found in the historic Fenland village of Upwell, Norfolk in a quiet, private secluded spot overlooking open fields to the rear. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation for up to five guests. Upwell has pubs, convenience stores, butchers, take-aways and roadside veg stalls. It is the perfect base for trips both inland and coastal in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk or further afield. The space On the ground floor the kitchen is well equipped with all the usual facilities including a dishwasher, microwave and Dolce Gusto espresso machine. The original Prestcold fridge is still going strong after 50 years, but she does make some strange gurgling noises which may make you feel like you are under water - we do hope you will be gentle with her ! The sitting room has 2 cozy sofas, TV and DVD, decent fibre broadband and a log burning stove. The dining room has a table which comfortably seats 6, plus the sofa-bed (so the living room can still be used when the sofa-bed is occupied). Leading directly from the dining room is a mini conservatory at the rear of the cottage where you can sit and watch the world go by, admire the huge Fenland skies and look out for the local wild life - we regularly see the green woodpeckers feeding on grubs in the grass, hear the owls at night and marvel at the bats and swallows on a summer's evening, or just listen to the magical sound of the poplar leaves rustling in the breeze. Also on the ground floor is the bathroom with large bath and shower over. The steep winding stairs lead to 2 bedrooms and a study (for fire safety precautions this must not be used for sleeping in). One bedroom has a king size bed with firm memory foam mattress and the other bedroom has a double bed with softer orthopaedic mattress on a traditional sprung base – once in it you won't want to get up ! Just by the front door is a small utility area with washing machine and dryer. Outside at the front is a small private, cottage style garden with lawn, outdoor seating and BBQ. It is sunny and protected from the wind. To the rear is a large grassed area with wild flower meadow (flowering in mid summer) and a private grass path leading between the fields and on to public footpaths - great for walking. We live next door and will be happy to meet you and help in anyway we can, while being mindful of your privacy at all times. We do need occasional access across the field at the rear to reach our bonfire, compost area and bees - don't worry they are well away from the cottage and won't bother you if you don't bother them ! Hot Desking - If you have to bring your work with you you can use the little study upstairs as a work space Guest access To make the best of the area you are advised to have a car - there is parking for 2 (or at a pinch 3) cars. If you want to come by public transport the nearest stations are March, or Downham Market. Local taxi services operate from there. Other things to note Children - unfortunately there are no protections for child safety such as plug socket covers, stair gate, child door catches, furniture corner protectors etc... House Rules -be sure to read our house rules in the separate section below. Smoking - please, no smoking inside, OK outside. Breakages - we're sure you will be careful, but it would be most helpful if would tell us about any breakages so that we can replace them before our next guests. If you have any special requests feel free to contact us before you book - we will do our best to accommodate. Accessibility - please note the steep staircase and downstairs bathroom.
