Two hours from Athens, ten minutes from the sea, a world away. The White House is our family's sea-view home in the olive groves of Ambelos, above Akrata. Three floors of light: a terrace over the Gulf of Corinth, a spiral staircase to a 360° rooftop, and quiet you can hear. Swim below, hike Chelmos behind, ride the rack railway — or do nothing at all; the hillside rewards that too. Family-run, pet-friendly, open all four seasons, with 150 olive trees for a garden. The space The White House sleeps 6 plus a baby, across three floors. TOP FLOOR — the master: king-size bed, windows on all sides, its own small balcony, and an external spiral staircase to the roof terrace, where the view runs 360° — the Gulf of Corinth in front, the Chelmos mountains behind. MIDDLE FLOOR — the heart of the house: a fully equipped kitchen and dining room opening onto the big sea-view terrace, plus an outdoor oven. Every long lunch ends up out there. GROUND FLOOR — the second bedroom, with a small double bed and a bunk (the bunk suits children and lighter adults best), and the bathroom with washing machine. Good to know before you book: this is a vertical house — the bathroom is on the ground floor and the master two flights up. Guests love the layout; guests who find stairs hard should know about it. A cot is available for babies up to 2 years. Travelling as a bigger group or planning a family gathering? Our Stone House sits on the same hillside and sleeps 8 — book both and you have the whole place. Guest access It's all yours — the whole house, its terraces and rooftop, the garden, the BBQ and outdoor oven, and the olive grove around it. Walk the grove, picnic under the trees, claim a hammock-worthy spot; the hillside is part of the stay. Parking is right next to the house — covered, protected, and free. The one shared corner: the small family chapel on the property. You're welcome to visit it; we ask only that it's treated with respect. Other things to note Practical things first: the Hideout is 2.5 km above the beach, shops, and restaurants — it's a good idea to do your shopping on your way to us. A car makes everything easy here. Akrata is known for its beaches, and the river Krathis runs right through it, flowing from the Aroania mountains down to the sea. Follow that river road 20 km up and you reach Lake Tsivlou — formed by a landslide in 1912, ringed by fir forest — on the way to Zarouchla and, in winter, the ski resort at Kalavryta. Yes: skiing in the morning, coffee by the sea in the afternoon. This coast is old. The ruins of the ancient city of Aegae and an ancient theatre lie near Akrata — this shoreline even appears in Homer. The archaeological museum nearby holds finds from the Neolithic to the Late Roman era: a Corinthian krater, a marble statue of Aigiochos, a necklace of cornelian and glass-paste beads, and more — a lovely hour for history lovers. For families, Park Synest is a nature-themed cultural park nearby — artistic installations, fairy-tale scenery, hiking, and restaurants in a beautiful natural setting; locals call it an "earthly paradise." And for bird lovers, a gorgeous coastal walk starts at Aigio's lighthouse and follows the shore to the Aliki wetland, a small protected lagoon that draws big flocks of migratory birds — flamingos included.
