This is a unique rustic cabin on a private dirt road nestled on a mountain brook in the forest adjoining the Giant Mountain Wilderness Area. This small (200 sq ft + 80 sq ft sleeping loft), Adirondack style cabin was completely refurbished this past year using locally sourced woods and built by hand. Located two miles from downtown Keene Valley, and at 1800 feet, this is an ideal place for those who prefer the quiet forest, the peaceful sound of a mountain brook, and possibily seeing animals. NOTE.. This cabin does have electricity, but NO indoor plumbing. It does have an out house, and is easily heated with a woodstove ( we supply the wood!!!!!) so you will be cozy and warm. There is a sink for washing dishes by fetching water from the brook. There is a beautiful place to sit and enjoy an outdoor fire between the cabin and a small pool in the brook. Sleeping arrangements include a sleeping loft with a full sized bed, as well as a full sized futon couch in the space below. Bedding is provided. Cooking is possible with a two burner electric hot plate, wood stove top, outside pit fire grill, and a medium sized toaster oven. Cabin is furnished with dishes, cutlery, cast iron cookware as well as having an under counter refrigerator. The property is located on a private road shared by the owners and a few other property owners. This would be a perfeect place who would appreciate a quiet and serene environment. NOTE.. the last mile of the road is private and moderately steep. It is accesible by all vehicles in the warmer months, but when it snows 4x4 vehicles with snow tires are highly recommended. If you have any questions about winter access, please do ask us. There is no internet service, at this point, this high up the mountain. However, there are free internet spots at the local library and in front of the local internet provider in town. Also, you may be able to get Verizon reception up to certain part of the road depending on your phone and weather. As there are no bath facilities, a shower is possible only by going to a hostel near Lake Placid or similar camps, for a modest fee. NOTE! There is no washing in the stream, as this is a pristine mountain stream with trout and other very sensitive water animals. While no houses are visible from the cabin, we do ask you to respect the boundaries of neighboring properties, the details of which will be shared. The owners live on an adjoining property, and will greet guests upon arrival. They will walk guests through details of the property, and also answer any questions about the cabin or the area. They will also be available through phone or messaging to answer any further questions if need be. The town if Keene Valley is a 5 minute drive or a 40 minute walk down a very quiet dirt road from the cabin. In town you will be able to buy groceries, visit a local farmstore, visit one of the premier hiking outfitters in the Adirondacks, enjoy a coffee shop and restaurants, and a small boutique shop. On Sundays, in season, there is a local farmers market 3.5 miles away at a beautiful open area. Keene Valley is the home of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, and trail heads are found throughout the valley. Two are within walking distance of the property. Further, in the winter, the Olympic venues of Whiteface Mountain, Mount Van Hoevenburg and Lake Placid are within 20-30 minutes away. Lake placid also offers a wide variety of restaurants, shops and activities.
