Description
One of Canberra's earlier residences, thoughtfully reimagined to become a modern, fully equipped, supremely comfortable space for the discerning traveller looking for a home away from home. If you have it at home, it's likely here too. Huge fenced, grassed, shaded rear yard. The space Recently freshened up original 1960's CBR home, it reflects a remarkable and eclectic collection of original features, modern style and technological convenience. Nestled in a quiet culdesac, the Watson shops is less than a 2 min walk away, providing the very well reputed Knox Cafe (great coffee and pastries and light meal options) and Lolo and Lola, a filipino restaurant which has a cult-like following. There's a traditional take away where you can get min chips or a phenomenal pizza. There's also a pharmacy, post office, Supabarn, hair dresser and massage clinic. But in the home you'd have no idea all of this is at your doorstep. This our first time hosting and perhaps we've gone a little too beyond what folk expect :) The lounge/dining room includes a 65in smart TV with Netflix and two large leather lounges to chill on, floor cushions for you and (at least) two dog beds for your travelling companions. A Sonos bluetooth sound system lets you stream Spotify. Reverse cycle air conditioning AND a large column heater in case you need a boost on one of our particularly chilly nights (we want our guests from warmer climates to be comfortable, regardless of the weather). The dining table can extend to seat 10 people (let us know if you'll need it extended so we can do it for you and bring the extra chairs in). The kitchen has been set up for cooking and casual catch ups. An induction cooktop does it's work quickly and the convection microwave allows you to bake or nuke - whatever you need. Being big fans of coffee, we've supplied a barista style coffee machine, beans and grinder. There's some supplies included just to help you start your stay right. We've extended the kitchen bench from the original 1960's size but kept the cupboards and shelves because they were too adorable. While the original seating nook had to go to fit the biggest fridge that would fit through the door we were able to create a massive breakfast bench that could seat 4 people comfortably or double as a stand up desk. Despite the above, its the bedrooms where we went overboard. Queen beds in each of the rooms, they all have memory foam mattress toppers, 600 thread count sheets and King size doonas. Each bedroom has a different doona so you can choose between wool, feather and hypoallergenic loft. Every room has three types of pillows: feather, memory foam and hypoallergenic loft. The bedside tables, made from the many built in cupboards originally in the house, have bedside lamps, power plugs and USB points. Bedroom 1 has reverse cycle a/c and all bedrooms, including bedroom 1, has column heaters for the most sensitive to our winter and fans to circulate the air in summer. Whatever the temperature is outside, inside you'll be comfortable. The bathroom is cute and original, improved with instantaneous hot water, so you will never run out, even if the house is at max capacity. We supply soap, shampoo and conditioner. The laundry has a brand new front loading washer dryer and detergent is on-hand. Seriously, it's a beautiful re-invention of a classic Canberra home. So much so that in the last couple of weeks of the renovation we found ourselves hanging out at the house, partly because we were tired but partly because we were just so comfortable. We bought this house as a project to help my folks downsize, so we've been acutely sensible on what we renovate and how we make the place comfortable while we're designing the new home to go on the site. Our AirBnB guests are helping us with what is a significantly expensive exercise and we're very grateful. Guest access You'll have full access to the house excluding one room at the rear which is where we store supplies and equipment. Other things to note As a family with fur members, we travel with our girls whenever we can. When we do, we can't necessarily take them with us everywhere we go. We've seen it with AirBnBing our place too - which can mean anxious dogs and upset neighbours. Because we're not as bright as we'd like to be, we only stumbled on the solution recently when a guest asked if we knew of doggy daycare services in the area. With short notice, they were stuck. But, to help out, we asked a Thai friend who loves dogs to see if he could help out. He could! So while the non-fur family were doing some things, the fur family was walked, cuddled, and taken on their own personal tour of the city. Another day when Tung wasn't available, my folks effectively house sat for a few hours, giving the same dog more relaxed company. We're doing what we can to help Tung build his own future and my folks donate their payment to a local rescue - so it's a wonderful addition to how we can help you maximise the stay for everyone. If you'd like to use this fledgling service, please message us as early as possible so we can confirm availabilities.
