Find peace, quiet, privacy, and fast high-speed internet at this cabin in Vermont's central hills. The cozy, wood cabin overlooks a small stream and beautiful, rolling meadows. Explore the 26 acres on private forest trails, meadow paths, and surrounding dirt roads. We are close to Montpelier, Northfield, Norwich University, the Mad River Valley, and Randolph. Come for foliage, skiing, mountain biking, or relaxing. (45 minutes to Sugarbush base lodge, 1 hour to Stowe and Killington.) The cottage is a comfortable, peaceful refuge for 1-2 people. With large south-facing windows, it is cozy and bright. It overlooks a stream and rolling meadows. You'll wake up to the sounds of the stream and bird songs. On a clear night, our skies are filled with stars, as this area has one of the darkest skies in the northeast. The cottage has a full kitchen, with a range and full-size refrigerator (no dishwasher). High-speed fiber internet provides all the bandwidth you need for Zoom meetings, streaming movies, or WiFi calling. We are well stocked with puzzles, records, and a record player, and all the dishes and appliances you need to make delicious meals. Note for guests considering a winter or spring visit to Vermont: weather conditions can change quickly at this time of year, and we recommend an AWD vehicle (ideally one with snow tires) ANYWHERE in Vermont - not only for dirt roads. When it can snow 2 inches per hour, deep snow can accumulate on state highways and main roads between plowing. GARAGE + PARKING: The cottage is a stand-alone home with a back deck/door and garage as its entries. You have access to the attached 1-car garage. We are happy to let you know the best place to park a second car. DRIVEWAY + NEIGHBORS: The 26-acre property has three houses accessed from a shared driveway; each house is secluded and private. We live in the Farmhouse on site and are available if needed but are happy to leave you alone. WINTER ACCESS: Our driveway is not steep, and our dirt road is well-maintained in winter. We're just a few minutes from a paved road and the Interstate. If you have a good winter car (AWD and/or snow tires) you should be fine in typical winter weather. In a big storm, we recommend making an extra cup of tea and spending a bit longer by the fire until you hear the plow trucks go by. SURROUNDING AREA: The surrounding area is rural, with large forested parcels and few neighbors. We're less than 10 minutes from the I-89 exit, and there are multiple grocery stores and wonderful restaurants within 20 minutes. Please see our Guidebook or send us a message for recommendations. We're located between Randolph and Northfield, which both have grocery stores and restaurants. We also encourage you to explore Montpelier, our lovely capital city, with an amazing selection of local stores, wonderful restaurants, and a great natural food co-op. We are available to answer any questions and provide suggestions, but are equally happy to give you space and privacy. Fairly remote rural setting in a picturesque farming valley. Low-key winter activities are great in our little valley. There are cross country ski opportunities, plenty of snowshoeing, sledding, and lovely winter walks. We're minutes from great mountain biking on the Randolph Trails. Downhill resort skiing is all around us- Sugarbush, Stowe, and Killington are all 45 minutes to a 1 hour drive. Good selection of excellent restaurants just south in the quaint town of Randolph. For other popular spots, It is 25 minutes to Montpelier (bustling, walkable capital city of Vermont with lots to do), 35 minutes to Waterbury, 20 minutes to Randolph, 20 minutes to Brookfield, 15 minutes to Exit 5 off Highway 89, and 1 hour to Burlington Airport. Definitely need a car, as there is no public transportation or Uber/Lyft. 4WD or winter tires strongly recommended during winter months, other times of the year any vehicle/tires are just fine on our dirt road. Did you see the note about no cell service and no TV? Just making sure :) CANCELLATION POLICY: We understand that unforeseen issues can impact your ability to get to Vermont and we encourage you to get trip insurance to protect your investment. We strive to keep our nightly prices as low as possible, therefore we do not have the ability to provide last minute refunds for any reason, including power outages, weather events, guest emergencies, etc. Please review our cancellation policy before booking.
