Description
Chittlehampton is a peaceful English village full of pretty thatched cottages, a beautiful church and square, which are often used for film shoots and excellent fishing and walking opportunities nearby. This beautiful thatched, chocolate box cottage is home from home and furnished with everything you need for a fabulous holiday. The Bell Inn, serves has a fantastic menue, wide selection of Ciders and Gin and the village shop has a butchery, bakery, post office, and tea shop. The space Hope Cottage is positioned just opposite the village shop and up the road from the award winning Bell Inn, so don't be fooled by the map! Hope was one of three adjoining cottages that formed what was known as the Rolle Arms, an old medieval inn. Listed by English Heritage in 1967, it is believed that some of the early features and the roof structure may date back to medieval times. The Tap Room which is now the laundry and boot room has curved walls where the beer barrels were once stored. For a 16th-century cottage, there is no need to worry about low ceilings; we recently had a visitor who was over six feet and still had plenty of headroom! Dining Area: Our dining room is a cosy and rustic space that is perfect for enjoying meals in a comfortable and charming environment. The exposed wooden beams give the room a warm and inviting feel, while the traditional materials and craftsmanship create a sense of history and tradition in this former pub. The lighting in Hope Cottage is soft and muted, with electric candles and low-wattage bulbs adding to the cozy and intimate feel of the space. During the colder months, our wood-burning stove is also a central feature of the room, providing warmth and a welcoming focal point. Lounge: Our lounge area is a warm and inviting space designed for relaxation, socialising, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Slate floors, exposed beams, and stone walls, create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Curl up on our overstuffed leather sofas under warm, plush throws and catch up on your favourite shows with our TV and Chromecast, or peruse our small library of books or collection of board games. Adding to this cosy feel, you will find the large log burner, which is perfect for unwinding after a long day. We provide you with a basket of logs, one refill and a bag of kindling, you can buy additional logs from local supermarkets. It's important that you read and follow the fire lighting guidelines Kitchen: through the vintage door, you will find the kitchen with its antique, local brick floor and two large dressers. One where you will find everything you need for your stay: wine, champagne, and gin glasses; plenty of cutlery, bowls, plates, stovetop espresso pots and also a range cooker, with double oven, microwave, and a fridge freezer. In terms of supplies, you will find, tea, coffee, sugar, foil, and sandwich bags. Additionally, you will find in the cupboard under the Belfast sink all the cleaning materials for your stay. Tap Room and WC: Steps lead up to a rear lobby with slate floor to a separate WC and the Tap Room which forms the utility room and boot room. Here you will find the washer/dryer and dishwasher. There is also a cupboard with cleaning equipment - upright Hoover, henry style vac and brooms/mops and buckets etc. We provide you with dishwasher tabs, washing machine liquid (the washing machine is liquid only) and softener. The Tap Room is warm with the boiler and radiator and we provide a clothes rack for drying neoprene waders and surf suits. Bedrooms: There are three good-sized bedrooms in Hope Cottage (king, twin, and single), all with high ceilings and plenty of storage. The rooms are furnished with Victorian-style beds, super soft throws, soft bedside lighting, and USB sockets. Each room is themed around some of our carefully chosen artwork: the single is the seaside room inspired by local beaches and the village of Clovelly, the twin with our ladies of the South of France by artist Roy Woodard and the main bedroom features warm colours from the art of August Macke. In each room, you will find a chest of drawers, a wardrobe, mirrors, and a hair dryer. Bathroom: With its lovely slipper bath, you can soak away the day in peace and quiet; and as there is a downstairs cloakroom, there's no rush or interruptions. There is also an enclosed Mira shower cubicle. We supply you with one set of towels and a bath mat for your stay. The Courtyard: leaving the cottage by the back door and turn right, you will find a doorway that leads to the courtyard. The perfect place to relax over a coffee or glass wine and soak up the sun. The Away Garden: again leaving the cottage by the back door and turning right, head up the path and turn right at Lea Cottage, walk past the white house and then you will find a small stone lean-to, with a path that leads up to the garden. The middle portion of the garden belongs to Hope and you can sit up here and enjoy the views over the valley and watch the sunset. For the summer months we provide a BBQ, coals and tools and there are plastic wine glasses and tumblers in the bottom of the food dresser. Dogs: We welcome one well-behaved small/medium-sized dog, but no dogs under one year old and no other pets.
