The incredible decorated wooden staircase is the work of Saturnino Desplats, son of Miguel Desplats, Argentina's first master staircase builder and winner of the silver medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition (1889) for his staircase design. All the fittings are by José Desplats. Inventor of the Desplats banner system. The house was built as the residence of José Armando Desplats and his wife Raquel Desplats de Desplats. Respectively the children of José and Gustavo, nephews of Saturnino and grandchildren of Miguel. The host is a direct descendant of the original owners of the house and lot for over 150 years. The Desplats family bought the lot in 1872, seeking to escape the yellow fever epidemic that plagued the city. And in the 1920s, this Tudor-style property was built.
